Product Description

1-11/16" (dia.) Premier Adjustable Rail & Stile Bit with 1/2" shank (shaker), 3-3/4" overall length.

From the Manufacturer

Imagine two router bits that create any door in 5/8 inch to 1-1/4 inch door thickness range, create "rattle free" flat panel doors, create ANY length long tenon construction and more. That's what Freud's new Premier Adjustable Rail & Stile Shaker Style router bit systems do. They work exactly like traditional rail and stile router bits to enhance door construction. Adjustable shims enable both a tight fit when using plywood panels and the ability to use thick panels ( from 5.5mm to 6.35mm ). The unique cutter geometry virtually eliminates tearout. Top portion of cutter, including bearing and spindle, is removed to produce the front of the long tenon profile for blind tenons, through tenons, or bridle joints. Bits feature Freud's Perma-Shield coating that reduces heat and pitch build up along with rust, and Freud's TiCo Hi-Density Carbide to maximize bit life and material finish. Optional cutters are available for double profile doors (99-862) with variable thicknesses and long tenons for perfecting matching profiles on all doors because it's the same set of router bits. This set produces a Shaker Style profile and all bits have 1/2 inch shanks.

These were bought for making cabinet doors for my home.Quality- Great. Cuts wellAdjustability- can very cut widths and depths which was perfect for the inner boards. Bits come with different spacers to make the adjustments.Performance- cuts great but can grab the wood quick if pushing them too hard. Make sure to have feather boards handy.Overall- These made my project come out very well and boards consistent. Glad I made the investment in these for this project. If you’re thinking about building your own doors, highly consider these for your project.

I used bit set for building 16 shaker style soft maple cabinet doors. Once properly setup in router table, zero tear out throughout total job. Didn’t use a backer piece of stock for tear out , no need. Pleasantly surprised. My only complaint is that because of adjustability , there are many washers, spacers if you need them . Instructions are terrible but you can figure it out , basically stack washers as needed. Overall, it’s a great set. I’m very happy I chose it. Also bevel angle is perfect, it’s a great choice.

I had a cheaper bit set that I used for a couple projects. It wasn't perfect but worked. Then I got these. Wow! What a difference!I got no tear outs and the joints fit like a glove. They're also adjustable in case your panels at thicker than a 1/4"Happy with the purchase. Recommended.

It does not make a big profile therefore does not increase the gluing surface very much

Really good results. Have built 8 drawer and cabinet faces out of MDF and these bits are still very sharp. Came packaged to work with a 1/4” center panel in the door and the fit is excellent. Will never buy another brand of bits

For whatever reason this configuration of router bit seems to be very hard to come by, at least here in Canada where we seem to have fewer options anyway ... like all their stuff this Freud router bit is very well made and works extremely well (we use if for shaker recessed panel cabinet doors with an inside 22.5degree profile). It's pricey but a necessity for our cabinet shop.

I originally was using my MLCS set to make some shaker furniture, but I could tell that they needed to be replaced because the wood was starting to burn and the cut quality was getting really bad. I decided to purchase this Freud set for a project that I am doing because the panels are going to be just flat maple 1/4" plywood and this set is supposedly adjustable. When i first opened the set I was impressed how well they come packaged in the Freud container. Also, these bits are very thick and heavy. They seem to be almost twice the size of my MLCS shaker set. Adjusting these is extremely easy to do even though there is no instructions. I basically took every washer out from both and I can now use them for plywood panels. I really couldn't be any happier with the quality of cut. There is hardly any chatter marks on the wood and the rails and stiles join perfectly. I liked my MLCS set very much and got great use out of it, but this set is in another league when it comes to build and cut quality.

I purchased this set to make simple shaker doors and to also cut tongues and grooves into some cedar panels I'm using in an interior cedar closet. Like all the Freud bits I've purchased to date these are sharp, effective, and very precise. In terms of set-up, I personally found it much easier to get the bits "level" than with other rail and stile bits, I think it is because these are pretty simple and straightforward. They cut all the wood I've passed through them very easily, and I really like the clean joint they produce.I haven't configured them to make longer "blind" tenons, and probably won't since cutting out the longer groove to accommodate the longer tenon appears to be beyond my capabilities.I really like how this set doesn't limit you to 3/4" stock, but instead can be used on much thicker pieces. If I was going to own only 1 rail & stile combo set, this would probably be it because of its versatility.

I purchased these while building a custom range hood to match existing cabinets. They worked well and I'm very happy with the set. I will be ordering the glass bit for a future project to make cabinets with glass doors. I agree with another reviewer that they won't adjust for the thinner plywood. I tried to use just one slotter bit, but the shank is not threaded enough for the nut to tighten down. You must use both slotting cutters. My 1/4" plywood measured 3/16" and the slot ended up at least 1/32" too wide. Since I was painting the doors white, it left a dark line in the gap. Next time in that situation I may have to shim it from the back or use painters caulk on the front. I did use spaceballs to keep the panels from rattling, but that doesn't push the panel to the front of the slot. Also, be very careful pulling the bits out of the case. The case is very tight and the cutters are very sharp! I used a small rag to cushion my grip. I also cleaned the "oil" off the shanks before inserting them into my router. The cuts were very smooth and the joints fit perfectly. I did change a shim to make the joint a little tighter on my set, though, but Freud made it easy to do. Nice touch! Before starting my own business, I worked for someone else, and I made (literally) hundreds of cabinets and doors on his Powermatic shaper, and these Freud router bits come as close as anything to being as good as shaper cutters! One last thing: there aren't any "real" instructions included in the case. You must go online and download the "poster" for the detailed instructions on set-up and adjustments. When printed out on my 8 1/2" x 11" printer, the print is very small. I may take the file to the local office supply and have them print it out on larger paper, at my cost! Ialmost gave this product 5 stars, but the above mentioned negatives give it a 4 star. I will be buying more bits in this series, and I do recommend them.
