I originally bought the 3/8" shank version and broke two of them using a 3" hole saw drilling holes in floor joists, a typical application. One broke on the very first hole. I then ordered a 7/16" shank mandrel and it arrived with the packaging all but disintegrated and the pilot bit missing. I ordered a replacement and the packaging was similarly pulling apart as if someone scrunched it in their hand. The 3/8 inch unit failures are a design problem, shank breaking at an obvious stress raiser. How packages get so beat up is fulfillment. The outer overpackaging was in perfect condition so these units were packed already messed up. The tool itself looks solid so I am hopeful it will stand up to normal use.

Snaps into place. Sometimes slow to lock in, but it does do it. Pretty great.

Great product! FYI it only works with Diablo brand hole saws unless you install the adapters. They use to have removable adapters on their hole saws that you could use on any manufacturers arbor but they are now not removable There bits are definitely one of the best you can buy so if you want to convert this is a great product. If you primarily drill wood I would go with the Milwaukee carbide

We use these HARD, and do manage to break them, but they are so convenient, the life span works out okay. You can simply snap out the centering bit, and replace it, without any tools, and you're not limited to a 1/4" centering bit like other types. We use a 9/32" DeWalt bit with a 1/4" drive.
