  • ACCURATE: More sensors = More accuracy. Conventional stud finders have 1 or 2 sensors. The ProSensor MAX had 13, making it the most accurate stud sensing tool on the market. The ProSensor MAX has a max detection depth of 2 1/2" for thick walls. The precision LEDs track the location of studs while displaying the center and edges simultaneously.
  • EASY: No calibration required. Just place the ProSensor MAX against the wall and press and hold the button to begin scanning. Unlike other stud sensors that give false readings, the ProSensor MAX allows you to start scanning anywhere, even over a stud.
  • TWO DETECTION MODES: In mode 1, the ProSensor MAX operates as a normal stud finder. In Mode 2, the ProSensor MAX detects studs through two or more layers of drywall (common in condos, townhomes, and home theaters), a single layer of sheetrock plus a layer of OSB or plywood (common in earthquake-resistant walls), plywood and MDF surfaces, lath and plaster (common in homes built prior to 1960), and large tile.
  • DISPLAYS FULL WIDTH OF STUDS: See more than just a point on the wall. The ProSensor MAX’s wide LED display shows the center and edges of studs simultaneously for single studs, double studs, and irregular configurations that other stud finders cannot detect.
  • DURABLE: Ideal for professionals and projects around the house, the ProSensor MAX is both accurate and durable.
  • CONVENIENT EXTRAS: Built-In Bubble Level, Low Battery Indicator, and Handy Pencil Caddy. Requires two AA batteries (not included).

Frequently Asked Questions

A Franklin Sensors stud finder wall scanner sensing a stud.

What does the center green light mean?

The middle LED will turn green to indicate the exact center of the stud.

A stud finder with a deep detection mode

When should I use mode 1 vs mode 2?

Use mode 1 to find studs through a single layer of sheetrock/drywall. Mode 2 is ideal for multiple layers of sheetrock (common in condos, townhomes, and home theaters), lath and plaster, OSB under sheetrock, and plywood and MDF surfaces.

A stud finder finding studs through paneling.

What can I not use this stud finder through?

We do not recommend the ProSensor MAX for stucco, exterior siding, carpet, or roofing. Small tile may cause false readings because of the grout. We have not tested results through wood flooring, brick, or concrete.

A stud finder with two batteries.

What batteries can I use?

For best results, use two brand new AA batteries.

While this detector is not cheap, I have found it to be one of the best I have ever owned. It is more accurate than most and requires far less time to determine where wall studs are located

This is the most incredible stud finder! I've used many stud finders over the years, but I've always needed one that could detect studs behind plastered walls and joists in plaster ceilings. This one works perfectly! It's much larger than I expected, but that doesn't matter because it shows me where the studs/joists are. :)

identifying joist is a nightmare. This usually involves the magnetic stud finder to pick up the nail heads and tapping on the ceiling or walls. However, after using this it’s so easy to find the timbers in the wall and ceilings.Identified the trimming around a staircase being doubled up. Very easy to use and would highly recommend.

I debated with myself whether I should splurge on the high sensor & led count with dual scan mode. I'm glad I did, this thing works like nothing I've ever seen. Time to dump the wimpy handheld scanner if you're interested in actually identifying the stud center/edges and multiple studs. I splurged because I can, I am tired of punch holes in walls because of outdated tech, this does what I need, even behind tile. As a homeowner/diy, I don't want to mess around, and this puts an end to it. Like the pencil holder and I like the bubble level and ease with with the detector works. Hopefully soon we'll be able to just image the wall like that new other device suggests, don't think it works as well as this.

This stud finder effectively locates studs, but there are some shortcomings. Although it claims to detect electrical wiring, the functionality is quite poor. The indication of wiring is so subtle that it is practically useless. While this is touted as the top-tier model, it falls short compared to its more affordable counterpart, the M210.The M210 not only has a separate indicator for wiring but also comes with the same 13 sensors. The only difference is that the Max has more LED lights, which doesn't make any significant difference in performance. Additionally, the Max is bulky and large. While the Max can detect studs deeper in the wall, the M210 provides a separate indicator light for wire detection, making the tradeoff quite equal. Given that the Max costs twice as much and still lacks proper wire detection, it's hard to justify the price. I'm also disappointed that they don't include a case, not even a soft pouch. And at $119, they could've also thrown in a couple of AA batteries. Therefore, I'm returning it and ordering an M210 instead.

Impressed. This thing found studs under travertine tile and even located studs behind foil backed sheet rock (1970s - used on the exterior walls). The foil backed sheetrock locating was spotty, meaning it would locate in certain areas and not others but then it wouldn't repeat that locate again. Not sure what's up with that, but it does work, unlike any other locator (except the magnetic one). It is huge for a stud finder, but I guess that's the point. I wouldn't say this is the only stud finder you'll ever need. I keep a magnetic finder to hand on screws and nails. Also I keep a normal stud finder for tighter locations. This thing is expensive, but I've never had a stud finder locate through tile.

I have two of the former model, only because you often have to buy a new one before you'll find the old one 😁Both were great and very reliable, and I gifted my first (spare) unit to a neighbourhood friend and fellow DIY'er.So, when I found this upgraded model available on Amazon, and given that I too am an avid DIY'er, I ordered one for my workshop tool shelf.Considerably larger than former Franklin models in the family, but certainly didn't disappoint on both sensitivity and accuracy, and blows my other 'cal & scan' type stud-finders out of the water. From personal experience, I enthusiastically recommend this stud finder beyond all others.
