The wood is soft enough to easily insert tacks, is strong enough to hold the material and is adjustable enough to make and hold the shape you need (within size limitations). I thought the extra length on two sides would get in the way but turns out they make decent handles if you are making something smaller than the max size. The screws and wingnuts are perfectly aligned so there is little stress placed on the tightened frame as you work. All in all, a nice piece of woodwork and well worth the price because of the function and reusability.

These are not user friendly at all. The “wood” alternative is so hard it’s impossible to secure tacks into it to stretch my needlepoint canvas.

Yes, as mentioned the screw length is short and the washers do not have enough room to get a good grip. BUT if you just take some pliers and back the screws out of the bar a bit it works great. Very stable and lightweight. A little weird that you have to buy 2 and there is not a complete 4 pack to make a square. But still seems better than other options.

I was very pleased to find an adjustable, reusable needlepoint frame. The problem is that the screws protruding from each edge are too short. No matter how tightly I secure them, which I retighten every day, the frame flexes and the nuts fall off. An extra 1/8” at the end of each would make an enormous difference. While the screw might reach to the end of the nut in one or two, in the remaining two or three it is considerably too short and there is just insufficent protruding screw to give the nut a full bite. I need to search for a missing washer and nut nearly every day. My old plain frame works considerably better, sad to say.
