I got these because they cover the shins. I bike a lot in areas that the trails are not kept up well in the desrt so my legs would get whipped with saw grass, cacti, and other sharp pokey plants. These shin/knee guards work well to protect my legs for the most part. I wish they were about 3 or 4 inches longer as my ankles still get exposed. They are pretty comfortable and flex well and dont affect my pedaling or riding any other than the fact they get very sweaty, especially if you are biking in hot weather. The tops slip down a little bit once they get sweaty which can affect their coverage and comfort but this doesnt happen every time for me. They definitely fit better for someone with large quads and calves. I have really boney knees and the knee pad portion stays centered well and doest try to slip around to the back of my knees. I am a bit worried about the longevity of the materials used. They use a stretchy fabric over the entire exterior of the guards so I am worried that over time they will start to tear and fray from getting rubbed on bushes and catching burs. I imagine taking a really good fall onto the knees would tear the padded portion out of the fabric exterior given how thin it is.

I purchased knee pads in the past with the same material and those cost 20 dollars less.. these are not that comfortable and wouldn't recommend them.
