Works well in grass and other places. This is my third one over probably 25 years. Wood and aluminum survives being outdoors in the sun and rain 24/7.

Thought this would be a waste of money, but a friend had one and I tried it. Now I would NOT be without. So easy to clean up after the pooches, even after the rain. A lifesaver for the spring clean-up. Shovel is stainless steel. I have a big Lab and got the small/medium shovel (around 7.5" square I think) which is plenty big enough. Highly recommend this for pet clean-up.

If you are looking at this thinking "do I really need a pooper scooper?" just hit the buy now button. At $40 you can't expect industrial quality, it is just a mini rake and some folded sheet metal but it works great. I have had this for 10 months, it is kept outside beside the house barely sheltered from the elements and the only sign of wear is some rust on the rake. I have a boxer and a beagle and a big yard, the large is the perfect size, I can easily carry the rake in one hand and the tray in the other and by the time the tray is full the weight of it is just starting to get unwieldy.

This is an amazing product. Never again will i reach down to pick up dog poop with my little plastic bag. This rake is environmentally friendly and gets poop out of the grass so easily!

It feels rather odd to be reviewing such a mundane, job-specific product but I was so thrilled with its simplicity and efficacy that I couldn't resist the urge. Prior to owning this product, I used the Wire Rake Scooper. (http://www.amazon.com/Wire-Rake-Scooper-for-Grass/dp/B0002AT464/ref=pd_sbs_petsupplies_1). Recently, the middle tine fell off, making picking up the smaller offal from my pug and corgi not unlike trying to eat peas with a gap-tooth. It was comical and frustrating.While the prior rake worked, to a degree, the sharp angle of the scoop made unloading it into a garbage bin a bit frustrating. Also, more often than not, rather than gathering the dookie (heh, I'm so I'm immature), you'd end up spearfishing it, making for an aggravating game of "Ew, shake it off!" rather than an easy hand-off to the bin. The tines, also, had a tendency to grab hunks of grass, so my yard began to look like it had a bad case of bed-head.This rake, however, is simplicity itself. I'm afraid I'm a bit laissez-faire about where my dogs go, so I'm relegated to performing an easter egg hunt among the grass and gravel of my yard. This rake, however, does a wonderful job of lightly herding the Corn-Eyed Brownsnakes into the dustpan. It doesn't grab the grass so much as skim along it, the tines coercing the stinky interlopers to come along quietly. The handles are nice and long, making pick-up FAR more comfortable than the rather short handle of the other rake.Yes, the cost is a bit higher than the other product, but you get what you pay for. If you need a simple product to go Turd Herding, you will find that this tool will fit the bill.

We needed to purchase a scooper for our back yard, so I went to Amazon to review the options. Both this product and the Sanitary Pooper Scooper received pretty positive reviews. I decided to buy them both so my girlfriend and I have something to do together (ha). This Wire Rack type is quite simple in design whereas the Sanitary Pooper Scooper is the crossed handle kind. I found that both work generally well. But, the Wire Rake one really impressed me. It is incredibly easy to use--just "rake" through the poop. The Sanitary model is more a grabber or clasper of the poop. The huge advantage goes to the Wire Rack if/when the poop is sort of down into the grass. The Sanitary model tends to chop up the poop, leaving gross half chunks behind. The Wire Rake style just easily slid through the grass and in the process smoothly picked up the poop. It even worked great in thicker and taller grass. Both do the job, but the Wire Rake was really impressive and deserves 5 stars. The Sanitary model is adequate, but deserves only 3 stars in my opinion. Also, the Sanitary model sort of feels a little bit cheapie, too, whereas the Wire Rake is quite sturdy and feels of a higher quality make. So, of the two links below, I would personally recommend going with the second link, the Wire Rake Scooper for Grass.

I've got an 80-pound, 8-month-old Weimaraner whose frequent "lawn gifts" were becoming a bit unwieldy with the previous pooper scoopers we've used. We had good results with one of those squeeze-the-lever-and-open-the-jaws models (like this one: ) -- especially in the winter -- but with the arrival of spring, it became much harder to get everything out of the grass. We've only been using this product for about 2 weeks, but the Rake gets right in under the poopy and lifts it right out of the grass in one movement. We ordered a scissor-style pooper scooper along with this one, too (which has yet to arrive), but we're in no hurry to try it out as this item has performed marvelously.As for the size of the product, I'm 6'4" and have had no trouble with its length, though it is slightly shorter than I would prefer. But it's the handle that compels me to give this a 4-star rather than 5-star review. It's essentially a wire loop with a rubber sleeve fitted over the top, so the grip feels hollow (because it is) where I'd prefer something more racquet-like. Otherwise, as for its function, it's a great time- and lawn-saving item.***Update at 10 months:I still rank this scooper very highly, although I will note that there is a tine that catches in my grass -- it may be Centipede grass, which has an above-ground runner system. One tine in particular snags the runners of the grass and neither combatant wants to let go, so the tine bends. I usually have to push it against a fence post to get it back in line with the other tines. Just a word of caution to anyone who has grasses with an intricate runner system (like St. Augustine's grass or seashore paspalum) that scooping too deeply may leave you in a tug of war with your lawn. This may delight your neighbors, but it's not much fun.*** Update ***When planting my garden this spring, I discovered that(an unopened, unused) poop fork works great for removing stones and pebbles from my garden beds. After the soil is tilled and worked, I raked it smooth (to a depth of 2") with the scooper and nabbed two buckets of pebbles. Smaller pebbles fall through the tines, but it's a huge improvement over hand picking.
