I've used this to do quite a bit of digging around tree stumps to remove dirt so I can get a good flush cut with a chainsaw without dulling my chain teeth. Probably over 100 trees at this point. Also used it to dig up about 50 stones covered over by shallow dirt.Resharpened it a couple times with a quick pass on a 60 grit wheel then a 120. Still going strong. The only complaint I have is the overzealous forge marking. It's stamped in so deep that if this ever breaks I'm certain it will occur at where the forge marking is, but I've given it a hot supper several times, used it as a pry tool on rocks, and it shows no signs of quitting.

Top quality item! This was my second purchase of one of these, due to losing my first one! The ordinal held up for over seven years of hard use and abuse. It would still be going strong if I’d not lost it.However finds it will be very pleased!

This is a one piece heavy duty forged steel head. No cheap welded-on blades like some. It comes disassembled and you just drop the head down the handle and give it a good tap. The handle is just a bit too long beyond the top of the head by about 1 1/2 inches which can hang you up on roots etc. you may need to take a grinder or hacksaw to it to make it flush. It’s also fairly dull when you first get it, just take a file to the edges, no big deal. My only real gripe is I wish it had slightly wider and longer blades. This is a great tool and very sturdy, you won’t bend this one.

LOVE this gardening tool, wish I had it years ago. Try to find something similar to the style and quality of this tool in a garden section of a big name department store - I am always on the look out for great work and time savers for gardening, but have yet to see something as great as this. My soil is full of roots and rocks; just try to use a shovel to dig a hole. With this tool, I can hack out a big enough hole in 4 to 6 whacks to plant a medium size perennial plant. Such a great work, and time saver! Boy oh boy, am I a happy gal. This tool has gone thru rocky stuff, and can break a 1" thick root in 1 to 2 whacks. It is great to have the 2 shape sides, even better. The tool does have a medium weight, makes it easy to hurl and get the power you need to get thru the tough stuff. It would work great on clay soil also. I would not be without it now. If I could I would give it more stars, or a shooting star!

I bought this to break up and loosen the dirt in our raised bed garden. It has proven to be the perfect tool, not too big and too small. It doesn’t wear your arm out and does a great job loosening the soil. Assembly is simple, just like putting the head on a pick axe and I have had no problems with it coming loose. I did add a paracord loop to the hole in the base just so it doesn’t slip away when swinging. I was glad I made the purchase and I’m sure this tool will last many years.

Smaller than expected so I've since picked up a full size one too; but this is my go-to-tool for most gardening jobs. Really tough for all but the biggest tasks and allows enough control to go rooting around in places where you may have to watch out for pipes or cables (urr unlike the large one, but that was my fault).

I bought some land and now change sprinkler heads in my spare time. This is the perfect tool for excavating sprinklers in and around roots. I would have given this 5 stars for being the perfect size and weight, but I’m finding the handle to be a little too skinny. I wish it had a little more thickness. Other than that is is a gray product.

The heads are cast and have bevels ground onto the ends to provide a cutting edge. I don’t believe there was any heat treatment of the metal along the cutting edges because it files very easily. This means the edges aren’t hardened and will soon be rounded over and dull if used in rocky soil. Also, the head and handle arrive un-assembled and need to be put together before use. I purchased two of these and both had large ridges at the bottom of the eye hole that needed to be filed off before I was able to get a decent seat of the head on the handle. Didn’t take long, but it was a bother. The handles are nicely made, apparently of fiber reinforced nylon. They are light and appear sturdy. I would say they are the highlight of the tool. Not bad for

This tool has been surprisingly handy. It works great for removing annoying saplings from my garden as well as general weeding. This is about the size and weight of a large framing hammer. My ten year old daughter loves it, uses it two handed. The tool arrived dull but was easily sharpened to a utility edge. One thing is that the cutter and mattock are both very narrow and take small bites of material at a time. This thing swings quickly and easily though so you still end up moving a respectable amount of material in a given time considering the size of the tool.
