Your cart is empty.Backer Rod is a closed cell, resilient, polyethylene backer rod used as a backup material for construction joints and applications that require sealants. It performs as a depth control for most known cold applied sealants. Sealants will not adhere to it; no bond breaker is required. Composition and Materials: Our Backer Rod is a round, resilient, extruded closed cell polyethylene backer rod with a water resistant outer skin. It is compatible with most known cold applied sealants such as urethane, silicone, acrylic, butyl, polysulfides, latex, and chinking sealants. Specific Uses Include: Expansion joints Highway joints Glazing Log home chinking Parking Decks Curtain Walls Coping joints Isolation joints Temporary joint seal Limitations: Backer Rod should be installed with a roller or blunt, flat-sided tool. Please follow sealant manufacturer specifications for recommended sealant width and depth ratio. For best results, do not puncture, fold or overly stretch the product. The product is made with a water-resistant outer skin, therefore where moisture resistance is important, care should be taken not to puncture this outer surface skin. Installation: Joint or opening must be free of all contaminants, loose materials, dry and free of frost. Select correct rod size for joint width. With a blunt instrument or roller, seat Backer Rod to depth recommended by sealant manufacturer. Technical Data: Backer Rod is chemically inert and will resist gasoline, oil, and most solvents. Product will not stain or adhere to sealants. I thought that the foam would easily compress into an uneven exposed aggregate joint. Umm, nope. Some of the box store brands are fairly flimsy and compresss to almost nothing, but not this. So it will get used around doors and windows on new construction projects, or used for hook and leaders for my tackle box. But I have a lifetime supply for sure.

I used for driveway concrete joints/large gaps prior to caulking them. Cheap solution to reduce the amount of expensive caulk.

The skin of the backer rod is just the right texture. It pushes in easily and stays in place. No slippage. Limited stretching.

Using this 1.0 diameter foam for 3/4” spacing has save use a lot of epoxy.
