Product Description

Designed for recording studios, gaming, home theaters and more, the Fluid Audio F8S active subwoofer delivers exceptional bass response in a compact footprint.

Many types of music benefit from bass extension – from Hip-Hop, to House, to Rock. Being able to hear your mix with this bass extension is critical to accurately creating your music. The F8S subwoofer allows you to hear every detail down to 30Hz – and in a compact size.

Mix Engineers want the confidence to know that their mixes translate well on all types of systems. That is why we included a standby footswitch. With a click of the included foot pedal, you can turn the bass on or off, and audition your mix with bass extension and without.

The F8S also has two built-in EQ settings that allow for two different settings - depending on your music: A more conventional Flat response, as well as a “Punch” setting that is perfect for Dance or other mid-bass heavy music.

For further flexibility, the F8S has a variable phase adjustment to fine tune the phase for optimal matching to your L/R monitors (0-180° ), a variable low pass crossover filter control (50-200Hz) and a 80Hz high pass filter (used with foot switch) for satellite connections.

I like that it's easy to setup, pretty loud and the footswitch is convienent. Does have low frequency response not sure if it goes all the way down to 30hz as claimed though. The speaker tends to make port noise at mid to high volume and can get a little boomy for an 8" as in echo boom (If you keep setting on flat it's a bit better). Does distort when pushed was hoping could handle a little bit more and sound a bit cleaner. For the price it's okay, I wish it would have a bit tighter deeper bass picked this up because it claimed to go down to 30hz freq response but I don't know if that is: +/- 3db or +/- 10db or +/- even more.

The feature set drew me in. Filtered at lowest setting I'm still getting 100hz out of it. Port noise. Well barely dig down to 40hz. Frequency response is not flat. Comparing to my fostex 8"" which has larger cabinet, this comes nowhere close. Studio guys hard pass. Gamers might dig it. Paid 15O. Sounds like $5O. Will probably pull plate amp out and build my own woofer/box. I like the array of inputs. Might check back if it breaks in and improves.

This sub sounded okay, but had quite a bit of port noise at the lower frequncies. I went with the 10 inch fluid subwoofer (Fluid Audio FC10s) and was much happier. I really wanted the 8 inch subwoofer to be enough but it just wasn't. While the 8 inch speaker had enough power, it just couldn't accurately reproduce the lower notes cleanly like the 10 inch subwoofer can.

Great match with the fluid 5 inch tops. Smooth response. Beautiful clarity.

I needed a sub for a small space and this one fit the bill perfectly. It has a lot going for it with the front volume control, the front fire speaker, front port, the rear choice of connections, flat/punchy bass switch and the best of all the included foot switch to be able to easily turn the unit on and off while listening.I got this as a "Used- Like New" purchase so it was heavily discounted and much more affordable. When I opened the box I saw the volume was maxed and the phase had been changed. I feel like someone returned this because they were expecting bigger sound from it. I plugged it all in and changed the phase, switched it to 'punchy' and it was just what I was looking for for my little space.I dabble with music listening as a hobby and this subwoofer helped complete my little set up that includes a Lenovo laptop, JBL Active-1 Monitor Controller, JBL 305P MKII monitors, and Monoprice premier TRS cables. Its a simple yet effective little set up. The JBL monitors only have a 5.25" driver so a little extra bass 'umph' was needed and the Fluid sub completed the sound. This will not give you that deep, hurt your chest feel or even move a lot of air but fills in that lower region for a nice complete sound. I felt it did not over inflate or add bass that was not there. It is a nice musical little sub that strives for accuracy. If you dont have unrealistic expectations for this sub to produce ultra low sounds and you need a sub for a small area then you should be pretty happy with this.Honestly If I were to have paid full price I would not have been happy and would have likely preferred the 10" JBL studio sub instead. But for the heavily discounted price I am happy with this unit.

I’m using Neumann KH 120A’s for my studio monitors. They’ve been great and providing good mixes, but I’ve been asking too much of them in the low end. They go surprisingly low for having 5.25” woofers (nearly flat down to 54 Hz), but my mixes have trended towards boomy and bass heavy on larger systems, and I’ve struggled mixing kick and bass. Not surprising, right? So, I started looking at 10” studio subwoofers, but was concerned they might be too much for my little 13’x16’ studio, even though I’ve got decent treatment and bass trapping. I didn’t want to overpower my room. Plus, most of the 10” and 12” studio subs are expensive, enormous, heavy, and difficult to position. I don’t mix hip-hop, and I’m not too worried about stuff below 30 Hz.. So, I figured a good 8” speaker should fill in the below 80Hz space to fill in below my Neumanns. But good 8” subs are hard too find; most are made for gamers, home theatres, and stereos. Eventually I found and read about the Fluid Audio F8S subwoofer. I was concerned because its not a well-known brand, and reviews for the speaker are hard to find. Now that I have it hooked up, though, I love this little sub! The speaker sounds defined and punchy, not boomy or blurred. Its working great with my near-fields. I’ve set the crossover for 80Hz, and have the volume turned down to about -3dB to get a balance that’s right for my room, and resulting in much better mixes that are balanced in the low end. More recently, I used an RMS meter and some test files to fine-tune the positioning, crossover, volume and phase setting.
