But over the years, anglers have found that the Rogue and its attractive rattles and wounded action will produce year-round. Either cast for bass or trolled for walleye, the Smithwick Rattlin' Rogue stands alone among jerkbaits.

This is one of the best minnow plugs ever made but I just wish they would reissue some old limited run colors. There was one particular color in the old excalibur series that I would like to see in particular. I also don't like how they reserve all these killer colors for other subsidies of the rogue but not the shallow floater. I am not really as big of a fan of the suspending models and the shallow floater is my favorite. It seems to me that the fishing tackle industry caters to the preferences of a few high profile tournament pros who have the attention of young suckers who haven't yet figured out that professional competitive angling is really just a marketing tool to get you to buy their new products. I don't think they're too concerned about what the crusty old weekend anglers want.

I got this to pull on bottom bouncers for walleye and never got a bite. I switched up and started fishing it for pike and bass and started slaying them. bring extra hooks though. After a few 26" pike the trebles started bending real bad. I swapped the bent ones with some Gamakatsu's and problem solved.

UPDATE: October 16, 2015: Just ordered five more for my husband, sons, and brother in law. They really love these lures!Original Review: My husband asked me to order two of these for him. He is a devout fisherman and we own a small marina. His parents used to sell bait and tackle so he's very familiar with it. He really likes this lure and told me to give it a 5 star rating and so here it is. I know nothing about fishing tackle so all I can say is...it's pretty! But my husband and sons all like this brand and own lures of different patterns, made by Smithwick. They never come home empty handed when they go out fishing so the lures are doing their jobs. They are high quality and will last for ages. My husband had the same one before (and other patterns/colors) but he was in an auto accident last summer and his entire tackle box was thrown from the car and destroyed. As he replaces his missing tackle, he is only getting what he really loves and this lure falls in that category times two!

Used this the first day on a recent trip to Canada and caught a 28 inch Northern Pike. The rattle is not overly loud like some rattling lures which I think is better so as not to scare the fish but to get it's attention. Hooks are very sharp and the exterior held up well to the pikes teeth.

Smithwick Rogues sell for only $5.50 in most stores and are great lures. The first one I ever used must have been defective, it was falling apart pretty easily (even though it caught me some nice bass). I got some new ones and they are holding up much better. They have great action that really catches Smallmouths, Largemouths, and even Stripers.Positives:Great PriceSharp, quality, hooksgood looking finishes and patternsExcellent action, very good jerkbaitstons of rattles, produces great soundNegatives:Some finishes are less durable than they should be (Chrome and gold)the lips are a bit thin and sometimes can break offthe plastic they are made from could be a bit strongerHard to find in most stores and more expensive to order online
