Don't really understand why the old float got soggy but this new one turns the motor on and off just like it should so it was a good fix

No surprises there.Just make sure you need a new one. When I changed the switch on my pump, the float felt heavy. I couldn't hear any water on the inside, but it was cheap enough that I bought a new one to be safe. The new one was just as heavy as the old one... turns out they're just well made.
