Fabulous Five Star Cutter! This exceptional blade has an almost two tiers of razor sharp tines to make quick work and clean cuts of your most challenging tree limb removal projects. The telescoping handleExtends up to 5-6 feet. The assembly of the unit was a little challenging even with a large set of directions, but once I took out the plastic piece wedged between the blade assembly I understood the assignment. Then it was a matter of unscrewing the hex nut thing with the provided wrench and then tightening it with the nut on the opposite side.In a little over an hour, I was able to trim all the dead palm fronds from my palm tree (about 30), trim a tall willow, and correct some messy cuts I made on our sumac tree.Incredible in the field, this is the perfect tool! I know this trimming project would have cost 100’s of dollars and I would not be pleased with the work of your average tree guy. I love our trees and I want to do right by them. This tool allows me the ability to do that- as a 50 plus year old woman with hyper-mobility syndrome, two compressed nerves, and arthritis, I could do this job safely and with relative ease. Thank you, Fiskars!

I have always loved the Fiskars line for gardening and this is no exception. I have purchased several different cutting or digging implements and found they are designed to last, so it made sense to add to my collection with this one. I ordered the X1 blade with hand saw convertor. There are 3 types of blades and options to add a rotating pruning head as well. The X1 does not have the hook at the top; it has exceptionally sharp alternating teeth. Fortunately, this was well wrapped and packaged so that there was no danger as I was unwrapping and installing the blade onto the handle for use. It attaches with a nut and pin connector on the hand saw bit, which locked it in very securely but I like that it would be simple to change blades when this one gets worn out. I love that you can use this as a long handle, a short handle, or a hand saw. It really adds to my options for cutting branches and accessing at the best angle. The handle is lightweight but very sturdy, and it is simple but secure to change from the hand saw to the pole version. I can see myself using this for years to come and the price is excellent considering I can use it several different ways and replace the blade when it wears out. You really can't beat this one.

I recently picked up the Fiskars XtendControl Extendable Tree Pruner (6 ft), and it’s been a game-changer for tackling those hard-to-reach branches in my yard. After several uses, here’s a breakdown of what I love—and a couple of things to consider.Pros:1. Solid Build & Design: Fiskars always delivers on quality, and this pruner is no exception. The pole feels sturdy but isn’t too heavy, making it easy to maneuver without feeling flimsy.2. Extendable Pole (3-6 ft): The adjustable length is incredibly handy. At its shortest, it’s great for trimming closer branches, but when fully extended, it gives you that extra reach without needing a ladder. The locking mechanism feels secure, so there’s no wobbling while cutting.3. Sharp Cutting Tools: The 15” X1 saw blade is razor-sharp and slices through thicker branches effortlessly. For smaller twigs and thinner limbs, the hand pruner works smoothly with a clean, precise cut.4. Ease of Use: Adjusting the length is intuitive, and switching between the hand pruner and saw is straightforward. I found the cutting action smooth and easy to control, even when working above my head.Cons (Minor Considerations):1. Weight at Full Extension: While manageable, the pole can feel a bit heavy when fully extended—especially during longer jobs. If you’re pruning for an extended period, you might feel it in your arms.2. Limited Reach: While the 6-ft extension is great for most yard tasks, if you have very tall trees, you may need a longer pole. For average garden maintenance, though, it’s more than sufficient.Overall Impression:The Fiskars XtendControl Tree Pruner strikes an excellent balance between durability, ease of use, and cutting power. It’s a perfect tool for homeowners looking to maintain their trees and shrubs without the hassle of dragging out a ladder. While it may not be ideal for towering branches, it’s an absolute workhorse for anything within reach. If you’re in the market for a reliable, adjustable pruner that’s comfortable to use and built to last, this one is definitely worth considering.

In general, Fiskars is a great brand and for the most part, this pruner fits right in. UNFORTUNATELY, there is one thing about this product that really should be improved. Specifically, the saw blade is secured in the handle by a bolt and nut. The handle has a cup that receives the nut so that you don’t need a wrench to hold the nut when tightening the bolt. This would be a great design EXCEPT that cup, which is part of the handle, is made of plastic. So, when you tighten the bolt, the nut can spin and round-off the cup. I consider that a design flaw. It could be corrected by either making the handle out of metal, putting a metal cup in the handle to receive the nut, or simply using a longer bolt and wingnut. I’ve included a picture so you can see the nut sitting in the cup and better understand what I’m discussing. I’m torn between making this a 3- or 4 –star rating, but have settled on 4 stars. However, if you purchase this item, be cautious to not overtighten the bolt. After assembling the saw, I tested it by trimming some palm fronds and some small oak branches. As expected, it performed well and was a pleasure to use. In summary, while I recommend this product with reservation, be careful about overtightening the blade bolt or you could render the saw useless. I hope that Fiskars reads this review and improves the design. If they did so, this would easily be a 5-star product.
