We recently a very large bluefin and it would have not been possible without this harness!We had an extended fight and we needed more than our belt harnesses could offer for the size fish we caught. I strongly recommend having one on the boat.

I took this out to the beach to shark fish I got hooked onto something big which I wasn’t able to get in but in the process of fighting the fish the clips that go to the top of reel snapped letting the rod almost fly out of my hands since I was trusting my weight on it. the problem can be fixed if you replace the clips with carabiners but you have to cut the old clips out so you can fit the carabiners into the strap which you shouldn’t have to do if you’re spending 100+ on this. I spent the extra 100 or so bucks to buy an aftco harness and another fighting plate, need something I can trust with $1000+ combos

This harness helps you fight really big fish way better! It will help you fight and land fish that you would not be able to handle without it. Just be warned...If you are going to use the rod straps to connect the rod to the harness that is strapped on you, you need to have the harness tied to the boat and have a fixed blade knife on your hip! if you lose your balance, or a reel jams up, there is a very real chance that you end up in the water and pulled to your death. Great for giant tuna, grouper etc. just use your head if you attach a rod to yourself.

I bought a few different style fighting rigs on amazon so far with disappointments. Hated them all, they never fit or adjusted correctly, poles would be to high and reel clips would not hold the pole in the proper angles. So tried this one being little pricier setup, and loved it.It puts butt of the pole far enough down on your thighs where the reel clips hold pole at the proper angle to fight a fish with little effort. Easy to adjust between me and my wife, love it. Only thing i wish it had was more velcro length on shoulder straps. My wife is 5’ and it runs out of velcro right about time gets snug on her shoulders, it hold but be nice for extra inch or 2 adjustment their.

The gear looks pretty solid and fits comfortably. However, there is too much play inside the rod holder. Had the opportunity to use them yesterday, we had to of them on the boat and in both cases we had the same issues. When fighting a big 90kg Big eye Tuna you cannot afford a rod moving around in the buckle, on numerous times the rod popped out the buckle because of the movement, my one friend actually took it of completely because you can’t concentrate when your rod keeps on jumping out. I would definitely recommend Gaffer to have a look at that patent.

I got the belt for a tuna trip. Tried it out and works with both bent and straight butt rods. Very pleased with it so far, the real test will be pulling in a 200 lbs fish.
