Happy - it is hidden under a vanity hood. It was so difficult to install. Tiny screws in back. I had to MacGyver a solution because it was so hard to get in behind to install. The unit is simple and affordable and I needed in a pinch. Air flow is sufficient, simple light and easy buttons. Overall happy!

I bought this hood insert to replace an existing (and undersized) 21" hood. Looking at similar hoods in this 30" size and appearance there are a few other options, but most of them are around $200 more than this hood. Are those hoods that much better than this one? Perhaps.First and foremost there is a lot to like about this hood insert and my rating would probably be closer to 4.5 stars if not for some installation frustrations that may only be for my specific application.I will summarize here to save some reading, but will also list the pro's and cons below with details.Summary: Solidly built hood (5 star build quality) with good suction and is relatively quiet. Looks great with good controls. While at a much cheaper price point than similar hoods, it is lacking a 4th speed setting, does not have dimming or color temperature changing lights, and the lights are only average brightness. The insert is not truly flush when mounted and can be difficult to install. Removing the protective coating is a real challenge and time consuming, like SERIOUSLY!If you want a good hood insert and are not concerned with the drawbacks above, I would highly suggest this hood insert. For me, I don't think I will miss the extra items for nearly twice the price of this hood.Pro's:The gauge steel used on the hood hood body and the stainless steel are very good and probably thicker than most. I was thinking to add some sound deadening material, but it does not need it.The fan is quiet and it moves a good amount of air. I will have to get more use out of it to be sure but initial impressions are good. The controls (touch and hand gestures) work great, no issues so far.It looks very nice once installed. There is only one thing that could make it better (see below for cons)The fan is pretty quiet in all speeds. Of course it is not silent, but it is quieter than the old Broan fan it replaces that didn't move any air at all.And of course the price as I mentioned is good compared to other 30" hoods with a similar (professional) appearance. It has a countdown timer to turn the fan off if you want it to run a bit after cooking. It's a great hood insert, but there are some other things to consider....Cons:Installation was a bit of a pain. This may be different if your installation is for a new build, but fitting this into an existing dedicated hood fixture like mine (see photos) was challenging. If installing into a cabinet style fixture with doors, this will probably be a bit easier. All in all, it took about 6 hours for me to install, and I consider myself a fairly skilled DIYer.The white protective coating on the stainless steel pieces is ridiculous! It took my girlfriend and I 2.5 hours to remove all the film on this thing (that is on top of the 6 hour install)! It only comes off a tiny piece at a time, or you have to tediously coax it off. It's a lot of work and leaves for fingers sore for several hours, just saying. Even with all that protective film, there were still some minor scratches, but mostly inside the insert parts which you don't really see. The manufacturer needs to stop using this film! I think the blue film is much easier to remove. The hardware that comes with the hood is pretty low grade, It will work, and I used it, but would suggest getting some stainless screws from the hardware store (#8, 1" to 1.25" long). In the end, I broke 1 screw, bent 1 screw and stripped another. Fortunately they provide some extra. Part of the reason is access to the front screws which leads me to my next con...There is very limited access to the front screws. The control panel does not remove unless you remove all the screws around the edge of the hood. This is not even noted as an option in the manual. Ultimately I left the controls in place as it would have been difficult to install the side and back screws if I removed the panel. With the panel installed you need to reach into the hood, and around the controls and motor to access the holes. It was a struggle, but it's possible.Lip of the insert is about 1/4" thick and has exposed screw heads (mentioned above). If you don't like the look you may want to go with another option for a hood insert. For me it was not a major factor, but a flush mount would look better in my opinion. It is only has 3 fan speeds where others are 4. Most likely why this is 800cfm and the other are 900cfm.The lights are not the brightest and they do not dim or change color temperature. On or off only.

None of the "What's in the Box" items were in the box. The missing items were Oil cup, Screws, Damper flaps and the manuals. This is the second time this has happened. I would not recommend this product. It will be returned.

We just built a house and the cabinets were installed, but there was no fan within the hood enclosure. I needed something quick, and I had to have dimensions under a certain size to ensure ease of installation and a snug fit, we did not want to have to have adjustments to our new hood. The fan is easy to turn on and off, literally with just a wave of a hand, which is great when you are in the middle of cooking. Also, we have a pretty large kitchen, but the sound is quieter than I expected even on the highest settings, and just a whisper at the low settings. This fan was just what we were looking for.

The product clearly says it can be ducted or convertible to ductless. There are no instructions for converting to ductless and I can’t find any mention of it online. As it is right now it’s just blowing air on to my wooden hood. Also, if you do a google search this same insert is $59 at Walmart.
