I like how the first 5 I tested were all within a 1dB tolerance of each other. For this price, I can adjust my thinking. I would rather buy 10 of these, than 1 $300 unit.

I’ve been using this for a good while now and it is mostly accurate, easy to use and carry wherever I go. Only issue I’ve found with it is the auto shut off after a few minutes. In some cases it’s good to save the battery but an issue when tracing a fiber line with the VFL function and not being able to find the end because it shut off on

This is a great little meter. I use it to shoot light from the FDA to locate the correct fiber at the terminal as well as a visual fault locator to find fiber breaks.... And the Light level readings have been accurate. After a month and a half of heavy use and some abuse it's held up well so great build quality.

Definitely opt for the rechargeable model! Unlike most others I'm not a fiber tech who works on FTTH/GPON systems. I use this for troubleshooting regular two strand fiber connections in large LAN environments facing OM1-OM4 and Single mode cabling. This tool is exactly what I was looking for in troubleshooting down or low db fiber connections. I had to calibrate the tool with a +5db, but now I can tell if the root cause is my jumper, SFP, uplink port, or bad pair in the long run fiber. I also use the VFL for verifying the patch is correct on the fiber shelf, locating where my jumper connects when there is a huge amount of them, and of course faults with the jumper.

Works great as a light meter, nice and responsive, turns on quickly, and remembers the last used wavelength. The VFL is decently bright, great for locating fiber in an MDU or quickly testing a drop, not so great for finding small breaks in invisilight or tracing a damaged feed from a off-site distribution. The "RJ45" test feature is completely absent however, there is no jack on the bottom, just an empty spot behind the cover, and there are no LEDS on the face above the buttons like in the pictures. Instead of saying "Optical power Meter" it has a logo for Youysi. Not a huge deal breaker as I have other test sets for RJ45/Cat5e/etc, and it's decent for what it actually does, but only 3 stars for 1/3 of the functions completely missing. If you want a very nice compact power meter, with a serviceable VFL, its a great buy.

I work at a fiber optic internet company, it’s been very useful and it has all my needs on the field. We get optimeters for testing light, they take forever to turn on and there is no VFL on our models. It’s so convenient having instant access to check light levels that you can store in your pocket all the time. The VFL is handy and bright, only downside is after 5-10 minutes it automatically turns off. I wish if the VFL is on then it won’t turn off but it’s not a big deal.I highly recommend calibrating to your fiber optic wavelength and light levels, the out of box experience is good with about 3 DB off but it’s great for a general estimate when it’s not very important. After calibration even after a couple months it’s been accurate and works very well. The battery life is pretty good, it uses 2 AAA batteries and it lasts me about a month or bit more.I love the Ethernet tester that is built onto the removable slot on the bottom. On the field I also work with CAT 6 and it’s great having it on the tool, I never have to carry around a separate Ethernet tester or ever run to my truck to find it. It’s helped me out in situations I never expected. The only major downside I had is the screen. When I first bought it, after about a month half of the screen was not working and was affecting my readings. I exchanged it for a new one and been very careful with the screen and making sure it won’t get dropped or damaged. It’s been a couple months and it’s been working just as it’s new.Overall, I love this tool and it will be a must need for me when I’m on the field.

Light meter and visual fault locator in one package. That’s very handy and it’s in a compact form. It’s less than half the size of my company supplied meter. Plus I don’t have to carry two tools when I can carry one.The large backlit screen is also great for my aging eyes. Easy to read.It comes with a single led as a “flashlight” but that’s a really gimmicky feature. I’d never use it for anything, but points for trying. I didn’t buy it for that so no big deal. It also comes with a little lanyard. I should’ve left it off because I keep my meter in a tool pouch. All it does is catch on my needle nose pliers. It’s pretty annoying. The auto shut off feature is nice if you are using the light meter. But not so great if you need if for VFL. The way I use these tools it almost never a factor. I think you can toggle it off, but it’s something to be away of if you need to check continuity of a long fiber run.

Readings were off out of packaging. Followed directions from manual for calibration and dialed it in. LIght readings are where they should be. Now for the other functions, I had to do some playing around to figure out. The manual did not give straight forward instructions on how to run the VFL, or cat 5 testing. For VFL, if you hold the "Light" button down it turns the VFL function on. VFL was brighter than the ones I currently have on hand. Cat 5 tester will, you will need an ethernet cable plugged in each end following holding down another button. I honestly forgot what button I had held down. But it works, cut green cable and had shown that I had lost continuity on the correct wire severed. Was a nice buy for the price given. Would purchase another as it does not break the bank and works as should.Initially bought 12th of July.Update: 8 -6-23 bought a 2nd as it had been very handy.
