This thing is a half inch thick and sparks like hell.Don’t know how long before a license is required. They claim a crazy number of strikes before it’s done.If you can’t get a fire going with this thing.maybe you weren’t ment to…

Very good ferro rod. The scraper could be a little better but the rod produces excellent sparks. Good value!

As we know we all need an alternative way to make fire when your lighter is not working. This rod is small enough to fit in a backpack easily. Simple and easy to use, a great value for the money. Shower spark like a grinder. It weighs a non noticeable amount even in your pocket. It should be very durable.

I've never owned a ferro rod firestarter before this one so I really don't have anything else to compare it too. What I can tell you is that, as a total noob, I had no problem getting a fire started with this. Yes, you need to scrape off the black coating to get it to work. But that is the same for any of these black coated ferro rods. The included striker made things super easy. I got lots of good sparks and got my tinder bundle lit with no trouble. It worked like a champ. Size was nice and it was easy to hold. Nice touch with the included Paracord lanyard.

I had never tried a ferro rod before, with the exception of a very small one on a keychain. Did not have much luck with that. I hope never to be in a situation that I need to build a fire to survive but it is better to prepare. I have been practicing with it for a few days and can now, with perfect tinder, usually start a fire in two or three strikes. I went fishing the other day and tried to start a fire in a grill using what i could find. That was my first fire with out modern help, with the exception of the ferro rod. I now know that even with my age and arthritic claws for hands I can start a fire if needed. This is a great tool to keep with you at all times.

It’s a giant fire steel who isn’t going to like that. The striker that is included is meh but the ferro itself gives a great spark and is reliable.

This thing is not as expensive compared with other products. Good grip, sparks well, and it works!
