1. Charger/Energizer/Fence

a. Disconnect fence wire from energizer.

b. Connect volt meter to energizer output terminals.

c. Check voltage reading and compare with previous readings.

d. If energizer is working OK check earth system.

2. Fence Line

a. Isolate sections of fence taking reading to identify the section.

b. After identifying the section, travel along the fence line taking readings at 100m (300ft) intervals until the fault is located.

3. Earth System

a. Short out electric fence (100m (300ft) from energizer) by placing earthed steel rods against fence.

b. Insert a test earth rod into ground approximately one metre (3ft) from energizer earth system and connect volt meter.

c. The ideal reading should be between 0 and 0.2kV.

d. If the reading exceeds 0.2kV, additional earthing is required.

1. Energizador

2. Cerco

a. Separe secciones del cerco, tomando lecturas para identifi car las sección con mayor caída de voltaje.

b. Después de identifi cada la sección, camine a lo largo de la misma tomando lecturas cada 100 metros, hasta que la falla sea localizada.

3. Sistema de Tierra

Easy to use with a full scale of 19kV is what I needed to test my own home-built fence charger. My solar charger just didnt hack it for furry critters like raccoons. The new charger is verified as a lot “hotter” 😁

My husband ordered this for our farm. He had a previous one from HArbor Freight and thought this one would be an upgrade. It was NOT. He opened the package, to set it up to use and it never worked. He could not ever get it to come on. Looked up instructions and problems but finally gave up. Obviously defective from the start. I could not even return it because he had tried to fix it and it had a scratch so I did not feel that was right. I will pay more attention to reviews next time.

Great at testing the electric fence. The only downfall is if your fence is there is no display if your fence is not working right, making you wonder if it is the fence or the meter.

Works well, would be 5 star but the ground wire is a little small/thin. Tested against neighbors and it is plenty accurate for testing your fence. Quickly turns off when not touching the hot wire. As with most products now, toss the supplied battery and use a quality one. Battery access requires small screwdriver, so popping the battery out between use is not quick/easy.No real complaints, I would recommend

I only write reviews when something is exceptionally good or exceptionally bad, and this thing is great. I used to have one of those ridiculous meters that you get at hardware stores, with a row of leds that are supposed to tell you the voltage. But it's impossible to read those in the daytime, even on an overcast day and while trying to shade them. You can only read those things at night when it's plenty dark. Who wants to do that? This one has a large display that's easy to read no matter what the conditions. It turns itself on and off; in my case it turns on even before touching the hot wires because there's so much voltage. I designed and built a highly unusual electric fence to keep squirrels and raccoons from completely stripping my pear orchard. Since I didn't know any better at the time, I used a Zareba EDC15M-Z rated for 15 miles; but my hot wires are only about 1000 feet long. This meter can measure voltage higher than most, so it routinely shows between 17K and 18K volts. Probably enough to stop an elephant.
