Beautiful set the nibs write smoothly and hold ink nicely

Judith here - Grabbed this set to just play around with a fountain pen - although this one is a dip pen. It has been fun to just practice with the ink. I now own two more traditional fountain pens and Jim has a few himself. LOVE using them. My dad used to use them in drafting. The ink is smooth, the tip is nice. And the feather is elegant. I LOVE the steam punk accoutrements adorning the pen. Tips are easily changed, too. Nicely packaged for gift giving.

This helped me figure out if I want to continue learning calligraphy or not (turns out I don't). But this was fun to practice and get some handwritten cards out. The overall aesthetic of the kit is beautiful too, so I will likely keep this as a prop for backgrounds.

I really enjoy my calligraphy journal and pens. I have loved practicing with it. I feel like I have been taken back in time. I love the mechanical cogs on the feather pen. It came with 5 nibs for the pen tip and a small ink well with holder for it and the pen. The paper in the journal is very thick craft paper so the ink doesn't bleed through. I really enjoy it very much and am so glad I got it. I recommend it for a gift for others or yourself.

This set comes in a box perfect for gift giving, and the presentation inside the box is nice as well.The leather notebook (the product page repeatedly says leather, but although they did a good job of it, I'm not sure that it is) looks and feels nice, and I like that you can add more pages to it. I'm not sure where to get this kind of paper or a hole punch with this format, but I will find the option for my daughter.I like how the ink and pen fit into the stand. It looks nice, but doesn't quite feel stable. My solution to that was double-sided tape on the bottom of the stand.It says there are five gold nibs, but it comes with one on the pen, too.Our purpose is for my daughter to enjoy displaying this and playing with it occasionally; more of a novelty than her "official" tool for learning and practicing.It's not a high grade set, which wasn't expected at this price, but for the price it's much more impressive than I expected.Thank you for reading, I hope it was helpful.

This great set has a bit of a steampunk vibe due to the gears. It is packaged for gifting and suitable for storage on a shelf, drawer, table. The weakest link in this set are the nibs, although they have only been tested and not actually been broken in or seasoned by doing multiple pages of writing. They still write well as you can see in the photos I included, and nibs are replaceable/disposable. In time many of us have our preferred specialty nibs too. The feather I received was in great shape, not damaged or frayed in any way and it came protected by a thin, clear plastic sleeve. The gold splatters add depth and elegance. The gears add weight to the pen which at first I was disliking, finding it awkward to hold to write with, however, I let the weight of it settle into my hand as it would and very quickly realized that it was providing a good balance. The notebook is far better than I expected. As listed and expected, it is a vinyl, not leather, but it has a pretty leaf design. The metal binder rings are easy to open and close. The closure is either on a genuine leather string or a very good imitation, with a matching and sturdy metal leaf dangle. The paper has a good feel to it and did not bleed with the ink provided. The ink is black. It takes a while to dry with the widest nibs since it does not sink into the paper. Once dry however, it is completely waterproof and smudge proof. I was pleasantly surprised! I just used a few drops of the water I had already used to clean each nib, figuring the ink would smear all over anyway, because quite often gift sets just include low quality generic inks, but the ink did not reactivate and none of the writing disappeared. While the water was still wet, I attempted to gently smudge it with a finger and nothing happened. The paper also held up well. The ink bottle sits without any wobbling on the desk or in the holder which is perfectly sized for it. The bottle includes a leakproof stopper in addition to the golden twist lid. I plan on keeping this bottle even once it is empty and will refill it with my own inks. Alternatively, the bottle holder could be used to hold the unused nibs right next to the feather pen. It is just the right size for doing that as well. Please see my photos with multiple variations for using this lovely holder which takes minimal space on the desk and sits flat without danger of wobbling or tipping over. The feather pen also sits properly in it. All in all, it is a surprisingly good set. Even after all the supplies are used up, you still have multiple durable pieces to keep for years to come. It is suitable for actual use and will look great as a prop for theater, still life drawing, painting and photos, videos or roleplaying games. Great any time of year and with its red and gold feather, it is perfect for Christmas or St. Valentine's Day. Very highly recommended.
