By far the worst incubator I’ve had. I’ve had it for several years now. Used about 6 or so times. Hatch rates of less than 10% and several chicks have hatched deformed. Different parents. It’s the incubator… Ordering something else.

Pros: Great product! Easy to use, 98% hatch rate, nice appearance, ease to clean, nice counter top size, no safety concerns at all.Cons: None

In a few of the product pictures, this incubator shows a plastic outer shell. My incubator arrived, and it's just a Styrofoam box with no plastic outer shell, which I wasn't expecting. In the first (front) picture, there's a plastic shell (approximately 1/16 inch thick) surrounding the top and bottom of the Styrofoam body of the incubator. In picture #3, there's a definite reflection of the plug in the plastic shell near the filling hole labeled "#1 FILLING HOLE".In picture #4, although the picture is grainy, an outer plastic shell can be scene around the filling hole.Picture #2 and #5 are the only two pictures that kind of shows Styrofoam as the outermost material of the incubator. I say "kind of", because the pictures are grainy and perhaps on purpose.I've yet to use the incubator, but will update this review once I have.If you're going to buy a Farm Innovators incubator, then get the 4250 model, and not the 2450. The 4250 (the "Pro" version) has a plastic outer shell around the Styrofoam as the 2450 model pretends to have, and it's definitely built better. Avoid the 2450 model unless you just want a Styrofoam box.

Our kids loved to watch our chicks hatch out this past spring! The incubator worked wonderful with over half of the eggs hatching. The temperature/humidity seemed to regulate well. Perfect to hatch out several chicks at home.

This incubator is five years old and on its 4th hatch. The hygrometer is still accurate, but the thermometer is not. I’m not worried about it though, because I use govee thermometer/hygrometers for readings and just adjust the incubator as needed. The govees are perfectly sized to sit in the egg turner. They’re accurate out of the box. (I check calibration them before using them).Instructions tell you to use a turkey baster to add water. I use a medicine syringe. The egg turner is understandably noisy, but you get used to it. When it’s full of eggs, it’s not as bad. I also leave my hatch journal binder resting on top of the incubator. The additional weight helps quiet the vibrations. There are hot spots. The very top and bottom rows (the rows closest to the filler holes) seem to lose about a third of their eggs. So I just don’t put my favorites there, knowing there’s a greater risk of blood rings at some point during incubation. Otherwise my hatches are great. This incubator does its job well!Last year, I misplaced one of the filler hole plugs (black). After scouring the internet for replacements and not finding them, I started looking for something that would be comparable… Wine toppers work perfectly! (Lucky four-leaf clovers are a nice touch, lol) These silicone corks actually work better than the original rubber ones, I think. The thicker plug head(?) makes removal/insertion much easier. The shaft part is maybe 1-2mm smaller than the original, but the thick, wide top part compensates for that very well.I’m not sure how long incubators work reliably before needing maintenance or mechanical replacement parts, but we’re on the fourth hatch in five years and haven’t run into any big surprises. The thermometer is off, but that’s easy to work around.

UPDATED:After using the thing a bit more and using a more precise thermometer with an external probe, I discovered that the temperature differential is even worse than I had thought. I had originally tested it without the eggs in. With eggs installed, the temperature differential could be as much as 10 degrees. Yes, ten degrees fahrenheit. Adding a second fan (a 40mm computer fan with an a/c adapter) helped a lot but I then found it could not hold the temperature when the room temperature was under 65 degrees or so. I ended up having to build a foam cover for it. After doing all that it works like it should, but I should have had to do it. Using it out of the box would have resulted in very poor hatch rates. 1 star.Original review:Everything worked as it should; the problem is that this incubator is defectively designed. The heating element is not centered, and the top has a large window which dissipates too much heat. The result is that one side is close to the stated temperature, but the other can be as much as five degrees fahrenheit lower. This is with an ambient room temperature of 65 degrees f. With a lower room temperature, the problem would be worse. The solution is to cover the incubator with something to insulate it, like bubble wrap, packing insulation, foam board, etc. But it's just downright crummy to have to do this to make the thing work correctly. 2 stars.

ProsLove the design... easy to add water good size for hatching duck and goose eggs. Lots of head space. Easy to adjust temp. Great viewing windowConsCan NOT rely on the accuracy of the temperature or humidity. Not able to change from Fahrenheit to celsius. The auto turner was impossible to adjust the number of rows and broke. It also couldn’t handle too many duck eggs and stopped turning the eggs. Had to plug up some of the holes to maintain its temp and humidity and in the last week I had to set the temp to 104 degrees to try to keep it at 98.5. Needed constant adjustments in order to get a successful hatching

The temp is really out but thats not unusual for this type of incubator.Just get a reliable thermometer and your good. The temp in mine needs to be set to about 105 to get the correct temperature. There's lots to like... you don't need to open it to fill... just don't add too much water or it will leak everywhere! Its nice and tall, not too much but just enough... I really like this as my last one I feel the element is a bit close to larger eggs... and chicks when they hatch.Ypu do need to keep an eye on it, but you should when incubating anyway so no big deal. All in all I feel its a good incubator.UPDATE, after several attempts using this incubator I’ve come to the conclusion it’s useless. The temp fluctuates so much it’s impossible to keep a consistent temperature. I have not had a successful hatch yet, I have lost many dozens of viable eggs. My best hatch out of a full incubator load was 3 chicks! And that’s with constant adjusting and monitoring of the temperature. A huge waste of time and money! I cannot use this incubator.

Excellent incubator, when it arrived I opened package, set it up, added water, the turner, and loaded 41 mostly XL chicken eggs, plugged it in cold, it took several minutes to heat to 100, (auto) and has remained within 0.5 degrees since, even in a coolroom. The turner has a slight hum, letting you know its working, slowly turning the eggs when needed, so far works excellent.
