I live in North Texas and we just had a Polar Vortex event where we had below zero windchills for about a week. I bought this heater to put in my water trough and the water never froze.

It's keeping tank ice free.Very clear in directions not to use extension cord. We have to BUT, we unhook when animals are in the field. So it is only hooked up at night which works prefect since we are in the South where it doesn't freeze often.Hoping to dig a trench for an outlet this year.

We have a horse that refuses to drink cold water. I thought this trough heater would do the trick. Nope, it quit working after one night. I was excited to see she had drank quite a bit overnight. When I checked the temperature of the water the next morning, it was ice cold. We tested the heater in four different outlets and nothing. Now, that it has stopped working, I’ll be carrying buckets of warm water for my little horse. I absolutely DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HEATER.

These work even in sub zero conditions. Just don't fill the trough too full in temps below 20.

My goldfish overwinter in the pond. The heater keeps a hole in the ice allowing for gas exchange.The price was right - a lot cheaper than heaters made specifically for fish ponds.My only complaint (very minor one) is that it does not have light indicating when it is heating.I am happy with it.

Worked through this past winter up to -20°F, it did hit -38°F and this kept the core water thawed but had ice over the top. Weirdest thing I've ever seen. I didn't think to take a picture, cows needed water

Works well...I've used these before, they don't last forever but certainly work well for several years.

Seems to be a great product. I have a 100 gallon plstic water bucket for three horses and it keeps a spot 2foot diameter opening in the bucket which enables the horses to drink without me having to wory about chopping open an area only to have it frozen over 15 min later.
