I use this in my rain barrel for my greenhouse. Keeps the water temperature at 45 degrees. My husband has one he uses in the horse water trough. He has used one for many years and has never had to worry about the water freezing.

Having the cord come out where the heating element is is just terrible design. And the cord is so stiff, there’s no straightening it out. I put a short length of pvc over the cord but later discovered the damage had already been done — not sure what the plastic covering the cord is for? Why not make it burn proof?!
