Lasted all of a week. Soon as the weather was -5C it couldn’t keep up then died a couple days later. Hadn’t needed this until this January although purchased the February before. Kept in its box unopened until early January of this year. Piece of junk. Don’t waste your time. Bought a good one from my local feed mill that is working perfectly.

We live on a small ranch in SE Texas and have occasional freezes, we’ve gotten down as low as 12 degrees ( I know !!! and this is Texas !!) , got tired of breaking ice in am/pm in our troughs, looked at reviews and decided these seemed to be the best and they certainly were !!! It’s been almost three winters now using these ( we ordered a couple extras to have on hand) and what a time/ energy saver !! Easy to assemble, completely kept water from freezing , you can use in plastic, ceramic, and concrete troughs or containers , we have them in10 -100 gallon troughs, has a thermostat that only kicks on when the temps drop below freezing, needs access to electricity, we use outdoor extension cords, heaters are well made, if you appreciate time savers, it’s a GREAT value for the money !

The old one worked well for years. I only replaced it because it was so rusty and bent out of shape from one horse repeatedly fishing it out and flinging it about. The horse in question has moved on so I expect this one will last forever too.

It keeps my 100 gallon tank ice free in 10 degree weather. I wish I would have shopped around first, it's $10 cheaper at the local farm store.

works great in all cold Saskatchewan temps. highly recommend. we have a small water trough and thought this might be too much for it but the 1000 watt de-icer did not work and was frozen up on -20 degrees Celsius days. spend a bit more and get the bigger one! worth it!

For two weeks it worked great. The "feels like temperature" here in Minnesota was -30 F (yes negative) for a few days. Brutally cold. This product kept my 85 gallon cold plunge tank at a balmy 48 F. Then I noticed the GFCI plug was tripped. Hunting around the house I finally figured out that this deicer was the problem. Now it won't heat the water, but strangely if you pull it out of the water and set it on the ground, it will start steaming so it's clearly working, just not submerged, which kind of defeats the purpose. Luckily I am in my return window. yay!

Works great in northern BC through our winters. My husband had one moment during a warmer day he thought it had quit until I reminded him it is thermostatically controlled which is great for a bit of energy savings! Highly recommend!

The de-icer is keeping up in my recent home made insulated water trough. The water is cool and no ice build up. We are currently going through -30 celsius chill factor in Ontario. I am very pleased. I should have done this a long time ago, since it created a use for the old leaking trough and left over building materials laying around. Drilled more holes in the bottom of old trough, in bottom placed sheet of 2" blue styrofoam insulation, set good water trough inside, filled gap between the walls with left over styrofoam pieces anything i had, sprayed in-between styrofoam piece gapping with low expansion insulation foam. I left a head space of 6-8" (no spray or foam chunks) to allow room to layer heavy house bricks around the top that I had on hand to prevent horses from chewing on styrofoam. Plywood lid is lined with foil bubble insulation sheet left over from horse trailer insulation. PERFECT! In fact I ordered a 2nd de-icer last night to keep on hand, GOOD PRICE!!
