About this item

  • LEARN TO PLAY WITH OUR NOTE GUIDE: Fantastic Finger Guides take the mystery out of learning the notes on the viola, and are a practical visual aid to improve your ear for music by helping you learn the notes with ease
  • GREAT FOR BEGINNER AND INTERMEDIATE LEVELS: Beginners and intermediate students who use our guides learn the language of music from the first day, and gradually build knowledge of the notes with every lesson
  • EASY-TO-USE STICKERS: Each note decal has self-adhesive on the back end so that the notes won’t slip around while you are playing your instrument - and once you learn your notes, the sticker comes off without leaving a sticky mess
  • IMPROVES FINGERBOARD NAVIGATION: Our patented 2 color - 3 shape design (with triangles for open strings, squares for natural notes, and blue ovals for sharp/flat notes); Position numbers on one side to shift into more advanced positions, and a sharp/flat direction indicator helps you better navigate the fingerboard
  • NOTE THE DIFFERENCE: Weston’s Fantastic Finger Guides were created over several years by an orchestra teacher who wanted a practical yet fun way for his own middle school orchestra students to learn their notes

A fun and engaging system to help you learn your notes!
The Fantastic Finger Guide gives you the best musical information at your fingertips to help you become a more confident player by showing you exactly where each note is on your fingerboard. Great for both beginning students or intermediate, our guides feature a patented 3 color - 3 shape design that is simple, smart, and easy to understand. Each set of decals includes a sharp and flat direction indicator on the side of the neck so you know which direction to go for sharp/flat notes and fret numbers to better navigate the fingerboard. The notes for frets 1-5 are labeled in a different color than frets 6-12 to help break up the fretboard for easier visual navigation. These features help you to easily understand sharps and flats, learn the chromatic notes, discover alternative fingerings for chords and play in different keys. Designed to streamline the process of learning to play string instruments, our unique guides provide an engaging way for you to practice notes while building confidence in your musical abilities.
Easy-to-use stickers that won’t leave a mess behind
Each UV coated note decal has self-adhesive on the back end so the notes won’t slip around while you are playing your instrument - and once you learn your notes, the markers come off without leaving a sticky mess. Once you are confident in knowing your notes, you should remove the decal strip so your visual memory will intuitively know where each note is. Our guides are easy to install but are not reusable. You must adjust the guide prior to wrapping around the neck of the instrument, as the vinyl and the paint may crack if you make adjustments afterwards.
Note the difference
Weston’s Fantastic Finger Guides were created over several years by a string teacher who wanted a practical yet fun way for his own music students to learn their notes. All of our products are made in the USA.

Excellent for beginners, a simple to use guide to note positions. Sticks well for about a month before lifting up at the edges and then working it's way off, but by this time the note positions are natural to find.Checking with a tuning tool we found the notes didn't quite line up, but that could be due to the bridge, string type etcGood learning took that doesn't leave permanent marks on the viola

I played stringed instruments most of my life. In elementary school my teachers used stickers to mark the finger positions. All I remember is them sweating off and making a sticky mess or them moving and making me out of tune. I bought this for my son as he starts Viola. It's like sliced bread. Easy to put on, fits his instrument perfectly and will stay in position. I wish I had this as a kid.

I began learning viola over thirty years ago with the colored tapes you put on the viola. What I liked about tape strips is you can feel them when your fingers move across the neck, that's one thing this product doesn't have; but what I didn't like about tapes was the guesswork in trying to get them in exactly the correct place, and sometimes having to replace them as they gunk up on the edges. This product is one solid piece, so it's smooth -- no tape edges your fingers can feel (that's a toss up whether it's a pro or con), and I tested the placement of the notes, and it is correct on my viola. Further, I love the additional information this product provides, which isn't provided by simple tape strips. Loving it so far, but time will tell. My only concern is how it might affect my viola when removing it (we'll find out in a few years!). I'm using it to teach my son how to play the very same viola that I grew up playing. (He found my viola, and wants to play it.)

I’ve been very impressed with these stickers over the last 6 months - they really boost my confidence while playing in our church orchestra, I’ve never played In front of people because I usually sound pitchy. But having the markings has made it so easy to shift positions and learn the scales.

With 2 cuts, this will accurately fit a 16.5 inch Viola. Per the Rule of 18, these are the “fret” spacings for a 16.5” Viola with a 15” nut to bridge spacing: 1st: 21mm, 2nd: 41mm, 3rd: 60mm, 4th: 78mm, 5th: 95mm, 6th: 111mm, 7th: 126mm. With two cuts as pictured, you can accommodate the 16.5” spacing with the 15.5” finger guide. Tip: With a sharp pencil, make lines on either side of the fingerboard at the fret intervals measured up from the nut as described above. Then, cut the finger guide and simply apply the 3 cut pieces according to your pencil fret markings.
