I ASSUMED that everything in the pack was correct, as it listed the tap as 3/8” x 24. I drilled the hole with the 25/64” bit provided and then tapped it with the tap. I then installed the thread coil. However, when I tried to thread the 3/8x24 bolt, it wouldn’t start. I then discovered the reason was the tap was 3/8x16! I couldn’t back the coil back out! My only solution was to try to retap the coil with my own 3/8x24 tap. This required several hours of time and literally destroyed my tap!!!!

Worked perfectly - Saved me $1000, since I didn't have to replace the castingThe thread that stripped out had a .5 counter-bore 3/8deep. Then the thread went another 1.25 inches. This was perfect, the tap didn't score the bore at all, and I was able to torque the bolt to the required specification.I will definitely use them again when I strip out another thread. Thanks,Sam

I have done this process 2 or 3 times before with good results. The hardest part of the job is making the hole and tap straight. This kit has the highest quality tools and the new threads are 100 x stronger than original aluminum alloy. Drill bit is extremely sharp. The bit and tap seemed to self level making diy hand tools ok. Both of the repairs I did were perfectly straight in spite of me. The coil did need A LOT OF lubricant to install correctly. I had to use liquid assembly lube to get the coil to seat properly. Spray lube wasn't enough. Not the cheapest kit but totally worth the extra few dollars.
