Husband bought for kayak storage and just installed it in our garage this weekend. He was able to install it on his own and it works well-pretty easy to use and serves its intended purpose well. Good utilization of storage space for sure.

OK, so my husband is the one who purchased this, but I'm going to write a review for him after our most recent debacle. If you're wondering: this thing is a LIFE SAVER!Let me start off by saying that our "boat setup" has never amounted to anything other than some hooks, some rope, and a little inginuity (ingenuity meaning some crazy elaborate knot my hubby learned in boyscouts a few decades ago in a galaxy far away thats sposed to hold tight but release easy when manipulated to do so and etc).We recently went out for the first time in years and our setup failed (who would've thought??). These special knots ties by the Magical Knot Man did not do what they were supposed to. They were all stuck and tied around all the boats with a vengeance. Husband is up on a ladder trying to pick them apart and getting irritated. (For reference: every time we have a family outing it always turns out like a Chevy Chase movie. He gets angry, stuff always gets chaotic and the STUPIDEST things HAPPEN!)It takes him like 30+ mins to get one boat down. And another. He wanted to be on water by 10 and this place is an hour away, etc. We successfully get boats 1 + 2 down. He's getting stuck on boats 3 + 4 down and in his irritation made a wrong move! Husband comes crashing to concrete garage floor, landing on a pile of stuff and I cringe as I and reach out to help something beyond what I could possibly do. I flinch hearing him hit. Wasn't a huge fall, I expected he'd be mostly ok (maybe some broken stuff and bones?). He landed and nothing was broken (on him at least thank goodness!), but as he fell, the boat swung and turned my garage into the Hall for the Dead in Skyrim for a sec there! The way gravity took that boat looked exactly like one of the big swinging booby trap axes that... and I watched helplessly as the momentum and Weight rip the hook out of the garage ceiling leaving a hole, revealing his stud finder lied (this was the ONE time he didn't put it on himself and say "found it!" 🙄🤣). It then crashed down into my poor defenseless chest freezer, not breaking it, but adding a very new large dent. Before we even hit the water, he ordered this. We've not had the chance to use it a whole lot yet, but I can already tell it's a lifesaver. Getting boats back up was a breeze and it's going to be a much better (less death dungeon style) way of life and peace of mind for this wife!

it is not very easy to lift a 45 kg kayak on a plastic wheels without a bearings, and one more thing you really have to have a very high garage to lift things so that they do not interfere with passing

This Garage ceiling storage boat hanging system made it so much easier and less expensive than what I had planned in my mind. These kayaks weigh 49 lbs so with the 120 lb weight limit we have lots of weight to spare. The pulley system is smooth and the locking catch holds the boat weight while I tie up the rope around the wall rope hanger. Amazing well designed and very cost effective. I had no issues with the rope or hardware quality

I have this hoist and the less expensive bike hoist. I prefer this hoist, the hooks are sturdier and the straps make it easy to loop about whatever you are lifting. The box I received looked very roughed up but so were the other hoists I ordered, and they were fine. When i went to install there were missing parts (the rope and the cleat). I decided to contact the manufacturer, and they sent me a whole new kit. It's installed and I'm very happy with it.Install was simple enough. Only hiccup was that I needed to look up how to tie a proper knot on youtube

Super easy to put up if you have any mechanical aptitude at all. My grand kids could have done it. It took me 1 hour, and honestly a good part of that time was determining where to put it. The directions are fine if you have any idea how a rope hoist works. Pre-drill lag bolt holes so they don't heat them up and break them...Common sense isn't so common. Throw the rope away and get a better one, its cheap, who cares. What did you expect for the price? I would recommend this to anyone, and if you have trouble pulling up 100 pounds with it you are a wimp. 100 pounds is a lot to hang from your ceiling for any length of time anyway unless you have 2x6 construction. I hoist 200 pound deer on my 2x4's, but wouldn't leave then there for any length of time. Use your head for something other then a hat rack. There are a lot of bad comments on this product that I just don't get. Some people just like to piss and moan about nothing. Again, use your head. For the money I may even buy another just to keep around in case I get another kayak, or canoe.

I didn't actually use these for Kayaks. I used them to hang ladders on the ceiling of my garage. I have a 24' extension ladder, a 12' step ladder, and a 17' folding ladder. I was running out of space to store them. By hanging from from the ceiling, it freed up a ton of space in my garage.I also used three more to hang bicycles. They are better made than most of the bicycle hoists. These hoists are easy to use and pretty strong. As long as you mount them to something sturdy, they can lift a fair amount. I made sure I was screwing the lag screws directly into the trusses of the garage ceiling.

As you can see my garage is already cluttered so the only available solution was to store my roof pod on the ceiling. The kit itself is decent with the exception of the rope (5/16 or 8mm ) which other posters have mentioned. The strap seems pretty good in my opinion.I also bought an extra double pulley which I mounted in between the two supplied pulleys so I could mount the brake pulley clear of the pod (to allow for easy lowering as the rope needs to be vertical to release the brake). The rollers seem to be quite light duty plastic but I expected them not to be the best quality given the price point. I can always replace them if they fail. All in all a decent kit for the price with some minor modifications to make it better

I used this to store my kayak over my car in my garage. Installation was pretty easy. Note that the instructions say to mount the brackets a distance of 2/3 the length of the kayak apart - this is NOT correct. You want to mount more like 1/3 the length of the kayak apart. I marked the 2/3 length, thought it looked too far apart, and moved them closer together. I mounted about 5 feet apart for a 10 foot kayak and it was still farther apart than I think is ideal. When the kayak was wet and I tried to hoist it, the straps slipped outward. I tied the straps together so they can't slip off, but a better solution is mounting the bracket closer together. The breaking mechanism is a bit challenging to operate. I have not been able to lower the 2 ends of the kayak at the same time. The only way I can lower is to move the rope end almost directly below the break, hold one rope in each hand, pull both ropes toward the center of the kayak, and slowly raise one hand at a time, alternating, until the kayak is lowered all the way down. The rope supplied is very poor quality. I lifted and lowered my kayak 4 times and saw significant fraying (fraying was noticeable after the first lift/lower operation). I replaced the rope with a 1/4" nylon braided rope from Home Depot and see no signs of fraying after lifting and lowering twice. For the price, this works just fine. I use it to store a 60lb kayak over my new car and I am NOT concerned about it failing and damaging my car.I took one star off due to the incorrect instructions, poor quality rope, and mediocre mounting hardware.
