Just as good as the ones you pay $3-4 a piece for in your local hardware store. These are nicer in some respects, as they aren’t as bulky as the hardware store ones. This is a product that’s pretty hard to screw up. The set screws on the terminals are sturdy and have the standard color code for hot/neutral/ground. I can tell that the screws on the outer housing are not prone to stripping; I gave them a good torque test.

These are inexpensive and get the job done. Solid copper wire up to 12AWG can be used by inserting the wire directly under the screw terminals. For stranded copper wire, it is helpful to crimp non-insulated fork terminals on each wire to get a better connection. Using fork terminals will allow for up to 12AWG stranded wire without issue. The clamp on the back holds the wire securely, providing adequate strain relief. The finished cord end is not weatherproof and should be used primarily indoors, or in covered outdoor locations. If you need something to use permanently outdoors in areas that are exposed to the elements, I would look for a type that seals around the wire better.

BACKGROUNDThis came up as a Vine suggestion and since it is an item that use often for creating custom power strips, I agreed to review it.The typical 6 outlet power strip just doesn't work well for me. I prefer to be able to individually switch each outlet (or each duplex outlet). So, I tend to make my own power strips. Often, I'll find a good deal on a longer extension cord and then cut it up to make either shorter extension cords or the power cords for power strips.INITIAL OBSERVATIONSManufacturing quality is acceptable. They are not commercial grade connectors, but are an acceptable utility grade. For this price, you should not be expecting commercial grade. I did not notice any obvious defects during the initial examination of the product.COMPLAINTS / ISSUESNone at this time, but I will revisit this review if I discover are any issues in the future.IMPRESSIONSThe connectors disassembled easily (proper size screwdriver is even included) and easily handled the 12AWG stranded wire that I was using. Afterwards, the unit reassembled easily and the strain relief was large enough for the overmolding insulation on the cord that I was using.CONCLUSIONAt a price of $20 for 5 *sets* (i.e. plugs + receptacles), that means only $2 each. That's cheaper than I can find at my local discount tool store (i.e. HarborFreight). I would also say that the quality of the insulator is a bit better in this product than the one from HF and definitely better than I've encountered at the local "dollar store".The product seems acceptable and it appears to meet all the specs in the ad. As such, it rates "average" (i.e. 3.0-stars). The inclusion of the screwdriver deserves a bump in the rating though, so I'm bumping it up to 3.5-stars (i.e. "slightly above average").ORIGINAL AD DESCRIPTIONElectrical Replacement Plug & Connector Set,(125V,15A,2Pole 3Wire,NEMA 5-15P & 5-15R),UL Listed,Straight Blade Plug Grounding Type,Extension Cord Ends,Industrial Grade,Yellow Shell,5 Pack$19.99STAR RATING SCALE5.0 Excellent product (or perhaps customer service); There is NO room for improvement whatsoever; NOTHING is perfect, so this rating *should* be EXTREMELY difficult to achieve.4.5 Very above average4.0 Above average product; Something about it sets it a bit above similar products on the market.3.5 Slightly above average3.0 Average product; Meets expectations, perfectly serviceable, but does not do anything that sets it apart from similar products; Does not have some features that makes me say, "Wow, that's a neat feature".2.5 Slightly below average2.0 Below average product; Something about it is a bit lacking; It could be conflicted specifications or errors in the original listing or that it was arrived with damage that was unlikely to have occurred during shipping and should have been caught in either the manufacturer's or seller's quality control.1.5 Very below average / slightly poor1.0 Poor product; Waste of money at ANY price; Blatant lies in the original listing.0.0 Extremely poor product; doesn't work and seller either ignores contact attempts or takes an extremely long time to respond, possibly trying to run out the window for returning a product; possible scam seller; a seller or product has to screw up *really* bad to get this score:ORDERED:2024-11-01:RECEIVED:2024-11-06:REVIEWED:2024-11-07:ASIN:B0DFVMYH9FLast Modified: 2024-11-07 03:42:05

I use 12-gauge, 50-foot-long extension cords in my construction business, and having noted that one of my cords had a crushed plug on the end, I ordered these connectors to replace it and others. The product description explicitly states that these connectors are for "16-12 AWG wire gauge," but I found that using them with 12-gauge copper stranded wiring was quite challenging, since the connection ports are secured by screws and those screws are just barely long enough to admit 12-gauge wire. Also, the aperture in the plastic housing is a very tight fit on 12-gauge extension cords, and the clamp that secures the cord to the connector is undersize as well; in attempting to tighten the screws, I stripped one out entirely. In the future, I'll use these connectors only for smaller-diameter, lighter-gauge (18-14 gauge) wire and purchase larger, sturdier ones for my heavy-duty cords.
