The pocket-sized, four-in-one Extech 45170 hygro-thermo-anemometer-light meter displays temperature and gives you a choice between showing relative humidity or air velocity. Temperature air or surface measurements can be made using the built-in Type K input (thermocouple probe sold separately). Additionally, the 45170 includes a light sensor, and its display reverses when in light mode.

Type K temperature input (probe sold separately, view larger).

The 45170 features a built in thermistor for ambient temperature measurements and a precision thin-film capacitance humidity sensor for fast response. The low friction vane wheel improves accuracy when measuring air velocity in ft/min, mph, m/s, km/h, and knots. For light measurement, the 45170 utilizes a precision photo diode and color correction filter and can provide cosine and color corrected light measurements. Other features include recording of minimum/maximum readings, a Data Hold function to freeze the displayed value, auto power off, and low battery indication.

The device has a temperature range of 32 to 122 degrees F, a humidity range of 10 to 95 percent relative humidity (RH), and light measurement capabilities of up to 1860 foot candles or 20,000 lux. Additionally, it offers the following air velocity measurement ranges:

Measurements

The 45170 measures 6.1 x 2.4 x 1.3 inches (HxWxD), weighs 5 ounces, and is powered by a single 9-volt battery. It's backed by a one-year limited warranty.

Welp, I absolutely destroyed the air velocity fan within 2 seconds of using it the first time. I had searched the description for the range of speeds it measured in the , but as of 8/22/24 you can see in two places in the Amazon description above that it says "Additionally, it offers the following air velocity measurement ranges: Measurements." The word "Measurements" being a placeholder for the actual information, I suspect." A few lines down, it lists the ranges for the other 3 qualities it measures, but again, has a placeholder where the air velocity range should be. I took a chance testing out a blower, the kind for blowing dust from your garage or room. As I said, it absolutely crumpled the fans before I had the reflexes to pull the tool from the stream of air. I'd love to be able to tell you what speed you'll breaks yours at, but I can't. At least the other 3 functions work. HOPEFULLY they're Product Development team will finish the specs in the description and prevent some other poor sap from breaking a quarter of a $200 tool.

The accuracy on the anemometer is awful. I can't get a reliable reading. On top of that using the MIN/MAX function causes the rest of the buttons to cease functioning. The automatic power off also doesn't work. The only way to solve this is to remove the battery. Unusable garbage.

Tout en un.Il est facile à utiliser et surtout il se met en veille donc pas de crainte pour les piles.Il est léger.En revanche, j'ai des doutes sur la mesure des températures (je trouve 2° d'écart avec un autre thermomètre)

Nice unit....takes a bit of getting used to turning it upside down for light meter, but is a super useful tool, and good size.

Review for: Extech 45170 Hygro Thermo Anemometer Light MeterFor this price it really is quite an impressive number of features. One wouldn't expect high quality accuracy for so many features at this price range.According to the manufacturer (and confirmed with the manufacturer), however, air flow accuracy is so poor at many speeds that you might consider other Extech meters in its place. Since there are lots of meters that measure the other things, one would expect that one buying this meter is actually interested in measuring air flow.According to the manufacturer the accuracy is a percentage of the top of the range, not of displayed value. Thus the accuracy claimed would be +/- 177 feet per minute (5910 x 3%).Since 3% of displayed value is the minimum expected of decent lower end certified models these days, this would make this instrument inferior when measuring speeds under around 60mph.ft/m accuracy5910 3% (67.0mph)2950 6% (33.5mph)1475 9% (16.8mph).. etc ..If someone in Extech feels this assessment by others at Extech is incorrect, please note so in the comments, I don't want this product to get an unfair knock.

This thing takes most of the environmental measurements you would want. BUT, to complete the package, they should add an IR Thermometer on it as well as a sound level meter. Then it would be the perfect swiss army knife meter... All in all though, I dig it. It does measures most of what I want with reasonable accuracy...
