I wish I could give this product zero stars. In theory it should be a real help in determining placement of buttonholes….but this one has a major flaw. Once you expand it, you cannot retract it without bending the thin metal. The rivets joining the strips are too tight. Once it’s open…it’s stuck in that position. Sadly, mine will be making its way to the recycle bin.

This is great for adding buttons or other appliqués to your clothes and material and getting a perfect measurement between pieces. It’s small for storing and works as it should.

This is a very helpful tool to use when placing buttons or other repeating details. I like it for both sewing and knitting and it takes a lot of the math out of placing buttonholes evenly across a a band. There are slots where you can mark the width of a hole with markings indicating the width for 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 & 1" buttons so you can mark where to sew quickly and easily.There is one limitation to this tool unfortunately, which is that when you pull it open or push it closed it doesn't always spread each of the tines perfectly evenly, so you will have to go through and double check that the spacing is equal across the spread once you have it set to the total width you're spacing for. It's still much faster and easier in my opinion than measuring and doing math, but it's not a perfect pull apart and done system either so know that going in.
