Maintenance Tips

We remodeled our kitchen and installed an Elica Downdraft Induction cooktop in black glass. I cut a sheet of translucent silicon matting to fit the glass so that it more closely blends with the adjacent surface. In a vacation home that this one is for will do the same thing for a slide-in induction range.The sheet does not effect performance, lightens up the impact of the black top, protects the glass and kills the glare from under counter lights and the reflection of the bottom of your of your cabinets.One point is that the white translucency might slightly discolor from use but it’s hardly objectionable. If you have controls in the glass I cut out small ares in the mat to allow for touch.

This was exactly what I was looking for to protect my new white countertops from hot pots and pans. So far no staining, ( I ordered the white) it’s good also for using my crockpot or air fryer on , as I always used a wooden cutting board before. I would definitely buy these again!

We purchased a cabin two years ago that came with a well worn, but totally usable cooktop. Did not look great, but was completely functional. In addition, there was a lack of counter space in the small kitchen. We bought this silicone counter mat to lay over the cooktop to protect it and give us additional workspace. This works great for that dual purpose. We now have an additional 32 x 25 prep surface that is easily cleaned and hides the worn and scuffed cooktop. This is a simple item that works well.

We bought this as an alternative to more expensive (less versatile) tempered glass. This silicone mat can be cut to customize where it goes. Some appliances can't sit under kitchen cabinets making this mat a great choice to protect either counters or in our case to protect a new kitchen cart. It matches the espresso finish of the cart, so much so you can't even see it. The mat was less than half the price of a 24 x 18 piece of glass making it a great deal and perfect for our needs.

I echo the thoughts of many that this is a great mat for the shop, but not the kitchen or any other place that must look nice. The shipping wrinkles/cracks can't be removed. They fold it length wise and must put it in a press as the creases are sharp and will at times cause minor cracks in the surface. It's thick, tough, resilient but not pretty.

I intentionally bought this a little bit big so that I could trim it off and it would fit the size of our Thermador cooktop. The Bosch that we had got many scratches from normal use so this will help. The silicone is approximately 2 mm thick. It's adheres to the cooktop quite well. The problem is trying to get all the bubbles out. Since ours is translucent, this was a problem because they fold the silicon to ship it instead of rolling it. The folds want to lift and let air underneath. I was able to trim the edges off and around the controls with a new razor blade and a straight edge. It withstood a 5 minute heat cycle with water boiling in a frying Pan but the silicone turned a white color in the heat area. The silicon wasn't damaged, but it was very warm and by the next day the circle was completely gone. If we buy another one of these I think I would get the black one so that the bubbles are not visible underneath it. The other thing that it has affected is the silence of the induction because now I can hear a loud buzzing from the cooktop almost like the pan is getting out of range of the induction effect but it's still worked. I only heard the sound when I had the heat on number 9. It was much less when it was unlower heat settings. It's a little tacky and a wet cloth makes it easier to wipe the silicone. I added a couple other pics from using the comal heating tortillas and it was just on setting 5 bad.

The product is as described. I disliked that it was folded and not rolled. This has been commented upon by other purchasers so I hope the seller's take notice because it is irritating. The translucent silicone is thick. The veins of the stone do not show up very well but more particularly the thing I didn't like, but accept, is that when the silicone grips the benchtop the top of the silicone , in parts, goes darker and it looks as if there is water spilt on it or there is a dirty mark. I just lift it up again and place it down gently again and it seems to look better. All in all, I would recommend the product, the price is reasonable and the shipping reasonably quick. I just wipe it with a damp sponge and then dry it with a linen tea towel and good as new. I have only had it for 2 wks and cutting to size with a rotary cutter was fine and s far so good.

Total rubbish. Because it was folded as opposed to rolled up it has permanent creases in it. As a result when laid out one can see all the creases. As for cleaning it again was not good. Used damp cloth with kitchen cleaner and gave it a wipe over. When dried you could see all the smears. This applies to both sides. ABSOLUTE WASTE OF MONEY
