Anytime a gift giving opportunity arises, my grandson requests these petri dishes. From the culture, to growing bacteria and being able to look at it under the microscope, is a great learning experience for him. He loves to learn and discover new things and the Evviva Sciences Nutrient Agar Petri Dishes is an age appropriate resource that fosters learning plus it's safe to use. I highly recommend this product.

These petri dishes were not sterile as listed in the description. At least 2 were growing visible mold when I attempted to use them.Updated review and rating from 1 to 4 as the seller reached out and sent a full refund. Apology accepted!

Worked well for daughters science project . Was able to grow bacteria in the agar as per the experiment. Nice they come with agar already in the dish with the cover.

We ordered these for a Stem fair. We received them and some had stuff already growing, we reached out and they replaced the product with no issues. Had a lot of growth after our swabs as well, so these Petri dishes are definitely a good product to use. The instructions were very simple to understand and you didn't have to do much to get the results.

No contaminated plates in my order. The expiration date is over a year from now, which is much longer than any other petri dishes I've had. I appreciate the information about refrigerating them and "thawing" them for an hour. Pictured with my review is a plate exposed to outside Ohio air for one hour on a calm day (very low wind), taped shut, and then held in a plastic baggie for several days in a dark, warm (70s°F) area.Happy with this product.

In the beginning of May I received 10 plates, 3 had a real tiny amount of agar,2 had a contamination ( growth at room temperature after 2 days, without opening packet). Customers service contact me on May 16 with a proposal to send 10 new ones, which I accepted. We are now May 31 and still nothing. DO NOT BUY HERE.

3 of the plates were contaminated and full of mold. Fortunately they were sealed in sets of 2 or 3 so the other 7 were usable

This set worked so well, very easy to use, just use the sterile swabs provided and you will grow impressive samples. We swabed the backyard soil, floors, bottom of shoes, sink, toilet seat, fingers and toes and an unwashed apple. The kids were really impressed by the amount of microorganisms grown from an invisible stuff on the swabs. We also bought a microscope and were able to actually see all of the different types of microbes and fungi that grew on these dishes. My kids are 6.5 years old, they are now much more conscious about washing hands, good hygiene and washing food.

This kit was bought for my son's science fair experiment. I Liked that the petri plates were vacuum sealed. On the negative note, I noticed that the amount of nutrient agar in the plates was not all the same. After incubating his streaked plates for 48 hours at 36.4 degrees Celsius 2 of plate's agar started to dry up and form a crack. This forced my son to stop the incubation period to 48 hours. He feels one more day would have been better to grow more bacteria. This was the second kit we purchased through Amazon. The first kit contained LB plates which is not as nutrient rich for bacterial growth as is nutrient agar. So my advice if your child is doing an experiment growing bacterial and such, just start with nutrient agar plates. I believe this kit would serve you well, and yes I would purchase it again, because the company emailed me to see if I was pleased with the product. I appreciate the good customer service. I will share my suggestions with the company in hopes that the amount of agar is increased and uniform.
