We tried a broken in version before selecting this shoulder rest, and it was more comfortable than the new one. But, like a pair of shoes once you use it, it does its job.

My son's violin shoulder rest arrived on time and was made of very sturdy materials (the clamps attaching to the violin are sturdy, but soft enough to grip well and the pad that touches the player's shoulder is soft, but firm and is dense, high quality foam). He finds it very comfortable, and is now using it to play. The shoulder rest has three settings for different size violins. From the look and feel of the materials, it should last a long time.

My 10 year old daughter uses her violin daily and transports it frequently. The rest is great and comfortable for her. She was super rough with taking it on and off and the gripper broke. Customer service responded immediately. It's not often you find stellar customer service. Highly recommend...but be sure you are detaching correctly. There's YouTube videos to help, especially for young children.

I played the violin for a good part of my youth and only used a piece of foam for a shoulder rest. Looking back, I recalled it really didn't provide me enough support, hence, I'd always experience neck and should pain when playing. Now that my daughter is starting violin classes at school, I'm thinking of picking it up again to play with and help her in the hopes of sparking a lifelong passion for music.I had actually ordered a different shoulder rest on Amazon for $14 dollars but ended up returning it because it kept falling off my 3/4 sized violin, even though it was supposed to fit a 3/4 or 4/4 size. In addition, the foam was already peeling off and the cut of the foam was sloppy. This Everest EZ-3 shoulder rest, on the other hand, appeared to be of top-notch quality. The design of the brackets is also very different from the other typical should rests which allowed it to attached securely to the violin, even during play. I can't speak for the durability since this is my first shoulder rest, but or an extra $3, this was a no-brainer compared to what I purchased before.
