This double eye needle is necessary to create a basting stitch on a Bernina 830 Record sewing machine. Set the machine to the widest zigzag stitch, the longest stitch length, and thread the upper eye only.It will probably worked the same way on any older sewing machine that doesn’t have an electronic basting stitch.

Schmetz are the only needles I'll use. This double eye makes a really decorative top stitch if you use contrasting colors in each eye. Doing a bright red and a bright flag blue on top with white in the bobbin on white fabric makes a nice decorative July 4th top stitch. Bright red and bright green on white makes for a decorative Christmas top stitch. It's probably not much use otherwise but for two colors of thread in the same stitch it is really fun. Make your own variegated thread combination. One day I'm going to combine a metalic with a plain and see what happens. This isn't a double needle - it's a single needle with two eyes.

I love to do decorative stitching with my sewing machines' beautiful stitches. Many times I would thread 2 threads in a large eye needle to get a blended color effect. I'm so glad that I saw this double eye needle demonstrated on YouTube! It gave me great results and the thread tension stayed even without any occassional looping occurring.

There was nothing wrong with the needles, but I purchased them because used with a zig zag stitch and longest straight stitch was suppose to result in an extra long basting stitch, did not work, just got a normal zigzag stitch, I realize the needles can be used like any other and will do that, but, sadly, they did not work for the intended reason. Perhaps its my machine (tried it on 2 Janome machines I have) without success even though the person who suggested it said she had "never had it not work for her", the really long basting stitch was exactly what I needed for my project. An elderly person I know told me, "those needles are nothing new, they were called basting needles in my day, didn't know they were still out there"

Work well with the proper stitch and thread, takes some trial and error to find the right ones!
