If your left-handed kid has already learned how to use a regular sharpener don't bother with this. It is awkward and flat out does not work well. It feels very junky and flimsy. Stabillo typically makes a great product but this is not one of them.

The lid broke off and it sharpens strangely...like sharp, stubby points. Hold a lot of shavings, good for lefties.

I'm not a lefty, so for whatever it's worth, when I tried the sharpener, the points were not smooth. Still, the pencils were decently sharpened. I'm not sure if I like the short "stubby" look (see photo), but maybe it's more efficient.I've never thought to sharpen my .9 lead mechanical pencil, but that's a cool option to have.I was going to give this as a gift, so I was hoping it had the packaging to show how to use it and why it was special. While it's nice that there was no wasteful packaging, it was a turn-off to receive the sharpener in a cardboard sleeve with no protection. I does look sturdy, so that's a plus.I tested it out before opening it, and saw that I had gotten lead shavings on the "name tag" stickers (which I didn't know were included). The name tags were designed to fit on the bottom, so I cleaned one off and wrote OPEN with an arrow--just in case the recipient was like me and didn't know how to empty the sharpener (it was closed tightly when I got it, so I was scared to twist it too tightly in case it was a pop-up cap ). To open, you just twist the lid "lefty loosey."

This is my daughter’s favorite by far!! It fits nicely in her hand! It isn’t so small that it gets lost!! She loves it so much I’ve begun to give some to my other awesome Lefty’s and they LOVE them as well!!She is now in 6th and another belongs to an eighth grader and I have used!

The sharpener is thoughtfully made. It is tough and well constructed. The shavings container fits well and comes apart easily allowing you to dispose of shavings. There are two sharpening holes for different size pencils. There is also a cool little flip cap that exposes the sharpeners.It sharpens pencils well! It seems that every pencil and crayon in the house is now sharp...Another nice touch that my 7 year old son loved was the stickers to put on the base to write your name. Thoughtful touch!Great sharpener purchased for my left handed son. Who knew that LH pencil sharpeners existed, let alone made the task a delight. My son loves it!
