Why Should It Be Serviced?

When the water temperature sensor fails, the temperature signal displayed when the engine is started from a cold state is still the temperature signal when the engine is hot. The ECU cannot get the signal of providing an overly rich mixture and can only supply the engine with a leaner mixture (the signal when the engine is hot), so the engine is difficult to start when the engine is cold. In this case, you need to check whether the water temperature sensor plug is in normal contact or replace the water temperature sensor.

When do you need to replace it?

If your engine coolant temperature sensor has failed, you may notice one of several symptoms: your temperature gauge doesn’t move, your engine overheats without warning, your radiator fans don’t switch on, or they don’t switch off. If your has any of these symptoms, it's a good idea to let a trained technician perform an inspection.

Installation was straightforward and easy. The sensor looks like the one I removed. It fit in without any problems. It works great and does the job. I’m satisfied.

First of all, there is nothing easy when it comes to replacement of a temperature sensor on a 3.6 engine on a 2020 Cadillac XT6. I am hoping to replace the temperature sensor without removing the intake manifold. My research indicates it can be done. One problem is the engine throwing a code indicating the thermostat is not operating properly which leads a lot of problems including loss of power steering properties and worst of all... NO AIR CONDITIONING!!! I checked the engine temperature with a diagnostic tool which was indicating 135°F: however, the radiator hoses were very hot indicating a properly operating thermostat. You can also use an electronic HVAC temperature sensor that uses wire leads to determine a more accurate temperature. The heater works well also, again indicating proper operating temperature. Therefore, the problem is most likely a failed temperature sensor. I am going to try to replace the sensor which is not an easy installation or an easy replacement. However, this is much easier than replacing the thermostat and still having the problem. I would suggest that if you are going to replace the thermostat, that you replace the temperature sensor also while you are in the engine. The sensor fits well and is a great value. If I cannot replace the thermostat, I ordered an adapter that fits in the hot water radiator hose that moves the sensor to a more accessible location and an area that should give a relatively accurate engine temperature reading so you will have proper engine operation. I will revisit this review once I have replaced or moved the thermostat, either of which will work and should return the engine to proper operation.
