Even after being frozen solid, these defrosted more rapidly than the other blue ice packs. Bought them to keep ice cream cold for a party but they failed. These ice packs were liquid in a few hours and failed to keep the dessert cold much less frozen. Very disappointed.

I knew I wanted resuables, so I got a couple of these. First big test was transporting an ice cream cake 1 hour away. Worked like a charm. Used a couple more times for transporting ice cream in the summer and simply put, they work when used in soft and hard coolers. Nice job Engel!

These packs are awesome. They get cold, VERY COLD. Now in order to get the full use is to freeze them in a freezer that gets below -5 degrees.

I live in CA, Walnut Creek. The power goes out about 3 times per year for up to 24hrs. One time we didn't have power for 48 hrs. Because of the high wind and other problems. I have an 18 cubic foot refrigerator, with the freezer on top, and the refrigerator on the bottom. Food in your refrigerator will last up to 6-8 hrs if you don't open it, 9hrs top! Food in your freezer will stay for several days, if you have it 75% full, in your freezer.I bought four of these premixed Engel brand, made in the USA, they go right in the freezer, from Amazon box to freezer! The Engle ones don't freeze together, in the freezer. Some of the other ones are made in China, and you have to mix it with a solution that freezes it to 5 degrees. Which is hard to do with water. Some of it doesn't stay mixed, and other problems. I put 3 of these stacked, on the bottom of my shelf. It leaves 70% of room on the shelf bottom.I put one on the door, to the freezer. You must be able to take it out, fast if there is a blackout! So leave room! The Engle Ice blocks do not freeze together, so I put them stacked, one on top of another. I was able to stack 3 of them, under the bottom of my shelf. That's like 20 lb ice, that freezes it to 5 degrees, in my freezer.I feel with a 32 degree ice block, and dry ice, it will be, between the two! They are $160 plus tax, for all 4 of them. I did my research on Amazon, and I picked the best one, and its made in the USA! In case of a PG&E blackout, take out two, and put it in two sections, of the refrigerator. Leave two in the freezer. I haven't had a blackout yet, but I'm 100% sure, that we will have one!

I knew the cooler pack was weighty when I ordered it but I was surprised at its size. Fortunately its width is relatively compact so it fits nicely against the side of most standard sized coolers. I attempted to discover if the cooling ingredient of Engle Ice was some special formula gel or liquid, but found no such listing anywhere. I did see that “Engle Ice changes phase at 32 degrees Fahrenheit,” which happens to be the freezing temperature of water so I assume that is the freezing ingredient of these ice packs.In the past in addition to some smaller ice packs containing various long freeze ingredients I would freeze a few full water bottles and space permitting add those to my coolers as well. Then, as the water bottles thawed I’d have some cold water to drink as well. But of course the Engle Ice Pack has the advantage of being more space efficient and it’s bulk will take the place of several smaller ice packs and will probably last just as long or longer than the magic ingredient ice packs. One thing I do like about smaller ice packs during multiple day road trips is that I can usually refreeze them in hotel room freezer compartments, although these days many hotels have done away with those.This cooler pack looks like just the thing to take on a day picnic.
