I got to try these out and ran some water through them and they definitely will clean up dirty water. The water that came out was completely clean after running it through the straw. Short of trying to run some bacteria infected water through it (not going to be a guinea pig) it does an excellent job of cleaning water you run through it. Although I will note if you use a bottle with this it's only works with the 20oz style bottle tops. Another thing is they don't give you a cover for the opening to attach bottles to. Would be nice if they included this to help keep out and debris. Using this very easy and straight forward. If you use a bottle though it won't just drain through. You'll have to put a little bit of pressure on the bottle to force it through. I originally purchased these to put them in a bug out bag and already being loaded up with supplies, these are light weight and easy to stash in your bag.

I keep these in bug out bags. To say they are a simple solution to clean water while on the move is an understatement - it doesn’t get any simpler than this. These straws here are as well made as any others on the market, and if they cost less, I don’t see why anybody wouldn’t prefer them to other costlier options.

Ok, these are about $9.25 a piece making them very competitive price wise. They also filter down to one micron particle size which is twice as good as other brands. They come with a long bright orange lanyard for carrying. Now I tried one to test it and could blow air through and suck air very easily. After inserting the bottom end in water, sucking was only mildly difficult. Water filtered easily. After removing from the water I tried back flushing like they recommend and it was impossible. I tried hanging it upright to see if the water inside the tubes would drain out...nope. Heavy lung pressure only got one or two drops to drain. All in all, these are great to keep handy for emergency use. I worry about possible mold growing in the tubes once you use one and put it away. Maybe that won't be a problem. What I really like is they come with a flexible straw that fits onto the intake port on the bottom so you don't have to bend so far down to surface water. The designers also added screw threads on the bottom of the filter so a water bottle or something similar can screw on to supply water to filter. Just dunk the bottle in a creek or pond and attach to the filter. Never have to get on your knees. As I said, I think these are great for having on hand for emergencies. Perfect for hiking and backpacking too.

If you have ever gone hiking, hunting or exploring you know to bring plenty of water with you. Just because there is a river or stream nearby it does not mean the water is safe enough to drink. In case of an emergency or natural disaster water may be hard to find and, in most cases, may be contaminated. These scenarios are where having a water filter straw with you can save your life. With one of these straws, you can get safe water from almost any water source except chemically contaminated water. I keep one in all my cars, my camping gear and my range bag. I also have extra straws and a large water filter pump at the house as back up, just in case. You can use it as a straw (as the name implies) or as a continuous water filter to fill cooking pots or water bottles (details are in the instructions). Each straw will filter almost 400 gallons each (depending on sediment in the water being filtered) so that will keep a family of four going for a few weeks (at 1 gallon per day, per person). Recent disasters in our news have shown why we need to have survival gear and supplies handy, make these straws part of YOUR go bag.
