I've been using Elenco kits for 25 years. Well designed! Fairly easy to build. Great instructions!

This is an excellent kit, build went well and the information in the manual is valuable for any one interested in electronics. Calibration went extremely well except for the ampere readings(off about 5-10%). All other readings are spot on compared to my Siglent Benchtop meter. Many complained about soldering the piezo disc(buzzer) in place. Search YouTube for information on how to properly solder piezo disks. It was a well worth it and the buzzer works great.

For a DIY multimeter, this was a very good kit and results in a decent product. It's actually something that can be used. It has outstanding directions on the assembly and operation of the device. All parts were present and the PCB was of decent quality. It works great (though don't expect it to be your main meter for serious work). If you've had some experience with these kits you'll likely find it pretty simple and straightforward to assemble, but it is certainly not for beginners. My only real complaint is the continuity buzzer, which is barely loud enough to be heard.

Bought this for some soldering practice, hoping I would have something practical to use at the end. It came up as an Amazon open-box deal, so I took a flier on it. Had no problems with the packaging or contents of the box. However, as another reviewer stated, the piezo is difficult to solder, with poor directions. Never ended up finishing the kit. The case is very cheap/bulky looking, I'm not sure I would use it even if I had been able to complete the project. Spend your money elsewhere.

Nice assemble yourself kit. I ran into problems with my first kit; can't tell if it was having trouble from the start or if I caused the problem, but the main IC ultimately died (and isn't serviceable). I assembled the second kit (which I just purchased rather than looking to return the original) with no issues. The kit was straightforward to assemble, and good instructions are provided. The resistors and capacitors are on a labeled card so not much time is spent sorting through components; it is well organized. The finished product is not comparable in quality to expensive meters. It's made of very lightweight plastic and the fitted rubber case doesn't fit very well. The continuity buzzer is very faint, but I wonder if this can be improved by tweaking the buzzer construction. Sitting on your bench where it won't take too much abuse, it should last. I wouldn't use it in any rougher environments.Still, for the price, it's difficult to beat. It included both probes and separate alligator clip leads. It tests capacitance, and also a basic transistor test, A/C current (inline/series), in addition to all the normal basic multimeter measurements.

Good for soldering practice, but the end product is useless. Actually wait, it's not good for practice even. The chip holders are the cheapest I've ever seen and melt VERY easy. They also let solder pass to the clamps that are supposed to hold the chip, making it impossible to insert the chip. I had to not use the one after trying to fix traces as it was destroyed. Many bridges were needed, as well as some wire jumpers. Second holder seems to have installed ok (Had to lower my iron to 250C from 300C), the solder would barely melt, and still the sockets look like they wanted to melt. The case is a $0.05 piece of plastic garbage, that doesn't even clamp/clip together at the top. AC V reads 0 always, probably because of the traces I had to try and repair. They test with proper connections, but alas, won't read.I've never had to solder piezo disc buzzers before, there's no instructions on how to do this properly. After destroying the buzzer I found on YouTube, how you have to be double careful and use special technique for piezo buzzers. As someone else here has stated, you have to cut the barrel protectors around both sets of leads to actually be able to insert them into the meter and make a connection with the banana plugs.I'm not even going to test the cap and transistor section, as this meter is basically going in the garbage.I was very excited to do this kit, as I did one back in college and it was massively fun. This kit actually made me angry. Hopefully the AM/FM radio kit will be better.

Ok no offense here, the whole thing is all in pieces. It actually tells you how to do everything INCLUDING putting the resistors on. Diodes, screen, just way to much stuff going on. ITs great if your truly working on electronics for a living, you may love putting it together. But I didnt pay to get this all in pieces. Absurd honestly

This kit was a lot of fun to put together and is great practice for soldering and working with small electronic components. I wouldn't recommend it to someone that had never touched a soldering iron, but it's definitely manageable for beginners. The instructions are broken up into several short phases which makes the build seem much less daunting and gives you immediate feedback on your progress. It also has the added benefit of helping to catch problems before you get too far into the build. After finishing the second phase, I discovered that my meter was not working correctly. The LCD was displaying numbers, but they did not change and did not seem to reflect voltage changes to the inputs. I contacted Elenco with a video demonstrated the problem and they sent me a new motherboard and enough components to get me going again. The new parts arrived in just a few days. I just finished my meter and it's working perfectly. It seems to be very high quality, and has features that are generally only available on more expensive products. I'm very impressed with Elenco and highly recommend their kits to anyone interested in learning about electronics.

This multimeter is NOT ASSEMBLED! This means you will have to SOLDER it!Now that that is out of the way, I am an Electrical Engineer major and for one of our class assignments we have to piece together fully functioning mid/high level circuit board kits. THAT is what this is for. It does a great job for what it says it does. While this is not Fluke multimeter, and as such it is not as durable as one, it works just fine for such class projects.

This multi meter is not assembled. It was not adversised that way.The whole circuit board needs to have all of the parts soldered onto it. All of the parts need to be put together. It would be a great project for someone who wants to put one together.I just wanted a multi meter, not a several hour project.
