Product Description

Science education products incorporate applied math and science principles into classroom and homeschool-based projects. Teachers in pre-K, elementary, and secondary classrooms use science education kits and products alongside science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) curriculum to demonstrate STEM concepts and real-world applications through hands-on activities. Science education projects include a broad range of activities, such as practical experiments in engineering, aeronautics, robotics, energy, chemistry, physics, biology, and geology.

EISCO Scientific manufactures and supplies lab equipment for education and industry. The company, founded in 1968 and headquartered in Rochester, NY, meets International Organization of Standardization (ISO) standard 9001: 2000.

The Van De Graaff generator is a simple device designed for electrostatic experiments and where continuous source of high voltage is required. It can be used to demonstrate several physical concepts, including: electrostatics, conservation of charge, conduction, and ionization. Static electricity is a familiar concept we encounter on a daily basis. It explains why static cling affects our clothes, the shock we sometimes experience when touching a doorknob on a dry winter day, and why we can cause a friend's hair to stand on end by “charging up” a balloon.

This DC motor driven Van De Graaff Generator measures 22" tall and produces up to 220,000 Volts. Ideal for demonstrating the transformation of energy from mechanical to electrical. Set includes a polished and hand spun 7.9" Van de Graaff Dome, 4" discharge wand, assembled base with attached DC motor, power cord, electrostatics accessories kit and an experiment guide with activity questions for learners.

There aren't too many people to whom I could give a Van de Graaff generator for Christmas and have them appreciate it. Fortunately, one of my nieces just started college last fall, majoring in physics. She loved this, had it up and working the same day, and spent the rest of the holiday season impressing her friends and terrifying her parents with artificial lightning. For a moderately-priced item of this type, it works quite well.

Came with the extras that I didn’t know about and even a classroom workbook. High quality and a really great purchase.

Van de graaff generators or some of the most fun you can have with electricity! This particular van de graaff is very powerful. If you have one fuss around with the ground a little bit and you'll get a much better spark

1. Only generates a 2 inch spark.2. Wouldn't work when it arrived. Turns out it was sent to me with a blown fuse. Poor quality control with either Amazon, the seller or both.3. Trying to get A.azon to send me replacement fuses. Wish me luck.

This product is not working properly when doing the different projects listed in the book. It comes with the accessories but the voltage seems to be the weak. It sounds like it’s shorting out or grounding out on occasions down at the bottom of the unit. First impression is disappointing. I don’t know whether it’s an adjustment or if I should just put it back in the box and return it.
