About this item

  • DETERMINE WIND SPEED || The anemometer is a simple device used to determine wind speed. It is simple enough for elementary children to understand and use while accurate enough to be used by professional meteorologists in weather forecasting.
  • DURABLE & WEATHER RESISTANT || The anemometer is resistant to corrosion and is designed specifically for prolonged outdoor use.
  • EASY TO USE || The unit consists of a post with revolving wind cups. These cups are each mounted on horizontal arms extending from the rotation axis. Set this unit outside on a table away from buildings and other obstacles. Placing the device at least four feet off the ground will yield the best results.
  • PRODUCT DIMENSIONS || Eisco's anemometer measures 7 inches in height and 8.5 inches in diameter.

This small anemometer is perfect for younger students to use in determination of windspeed. Cups are mounted on horizontal arms extending from the axis with one red cup being used to determine the number of rotations. Made of corrosive resistant materials, the unit is perfect for prolonged outdoor use.

The information given is misleading. There is nothing on the device that gives the actual wind speed. You have to count the number of rotations and use that to calculate wind speed. In a high wind it would be difficult to count the number of rotations. It does, however, make a nice toy for children, which some kids would enjoy.

This a great for a simple school anemometer. We got it to replace a cheep one that came with a weather kit. The one that came in the kit from a different company didn’t spin well at all. This spun much more smoothly. I wouldn’t say it is professional grade, but it was great for watching and documenting the weather for a month or two.

Absurd design flaw. Nothing holds rotating cups on the stem , again nothing holds the cups on. How people can design an instrument so horribly flawed and sell it to the public without a statement like.... “this instrument is a toy, to be used on a kitchen table for entertaining toddlers. .....except if you have your window open or AC on then cups will fly off as they are not retained in any manner” . Shame on Eisco Scientific
