It's a brass weight. It is well-made. My 10-pound postal scale measured it at 498 grams, but I am inclined to believe the weight is accurate and my scale is off by a tiny bit.

I purchased this product to use as counterweight in delicate guitar crack repair on acoustic guitars. They have served that purpose well, and while my use is not specific to the weight being accurate to the gram, the were accurately represented on the website.
