Product:_Bosshead, Heavy Duty - Fits Rods up to 16mm - Screw Adjustable - Thick Casting for Heavy Loads - Powder Coated Zinc Alloy - High Torsional Strength - Research, Industrial Lab Grade - Eisco Labs_I Like It!Small, strong, clamps well, 16mm=0.63”, fits 1/2" copper pipe, Use for Panavise Heads, etc...This fits my vertical rod stand perfectly!I’m using this clamp to support a Panavise Circuit board holder on the tall vertical rod instead of in the Vise Base. With this 2-way clamp, it can now hold larger boards up higher and with less restricted access to both sides.See picture. This clamp could also be used with many other Panavise heads.I noted that this clamp is also a perfect fit for a 1/2" copper water pipe, for either vertical or horizontal supports.Using copper water pipe, I could make a full long height adjustable frame assembly for that 3rd hand I’ve always needed. If nothing else, it could help keep things like cords out of the way. I’d only need to devise a couple of bases to hold the bottom end of each vertical pipe section.Hmmm, with three or four legs, I could even make supports for custom adjustable/movable small shelves to get more stuff off the actual workbench surface.

Casting is strong and well made. Would have been 5 stars except the thumb screws are poor quality and have sharp edges.

I have bought about 4 different kinds of bosshead clamps on Amazon recently, and this is by far my favorite!I used this heavy duty clamp to support a 3/8 steel rod horizontally above a ring stand, and love its smooth edges and nice coating.

The thumbscrews and the blue body of the clamp are both well-made and strong. The place where the manufacturer messed up, relates to the female screw threads cut into the blue body. The holes that were drilled (before tapping the threads) were drilled way too large. As a result, the tapped threads are barely formed. After taking measurements, and plugging those measurements into thread calculation formulas, there is 25% measured thread engagement for the thumbscrews at most. With the M8-1.25 thread thumbscrews these clamps use, 25% engagement means there is about 0.25mm of thread overlap between the male thumbscrew threads and the female blue body threads. Not very impressive or very strong, and I'm not sure how long these clamps will last as a result. Poor thread engagement also causes the thumbscrews to be quite wobbly side to side while screwing them in and out.Standard practice for threads, is to never have less than 50% thread engagement, especially if the female threads are cut into a softer metal like these are. If they would've tapped the female threads according to the worldwide standard 50-75% thread engagement spec (that pretty much every manufacturer not based in China uses), these clamps would be perfect and I would be buying more.Shady Chinese factories often do this sort of thing when it comes to cutting threads, because the less metal a tap cuts the longer the thread tap will last, so if the factory drills the original hole larger than it should be, the factory doesn’t need to replace thread taps as often and they save money. It appears that once again, a Chinese manufacturer cut corners where it mattered most, and they ruined what would have been a quality product.
