  • 5 piece equal mass metal cylinder set. Set includes Zinc, Copper, Aluminum, Tin & Lead. The density of the metals in this set range from 2.7g/cm³ to 11.3g/cm³, giving learners a wide range of different values to study
  • Excellent for physics classrooms. This set allows learners to explore the relationship between density & mass. Additionally, the cylinders can be used for specific gravity and specific heat experiments
  • Set includes a complete instruction manual that gives a background on density, mass, specific gravity & specific heat and includes inquiry based student activities with capture sheets
  • Due to the nature of raw metals, some oxidation or corrosion due to humidity and storage may occur. Simply scuff any oxidation off to make the item look brand new again
  • Designed to be used in an educational setting and are not fabricated using ultra high precision machining. Expect tolerances in the +/- 5% range of any stated dimensions (although they are generally much tighter).

Product Description

Science education products incorporate applied math and science principles into classroom and homeschool-based projects. Teachers in pre-K, elementary, and secondary classrooms use science education kits and products alongside science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) curriculum to demonstrate STEM concepts and real-world applications through hands-on activities. Science education projects include a broad range of activities, such as practical experiments in engineering, aeronautics, robotics, energy, chemistry, physics, biology, and geology.

EISCO Scientific manufactures and supplies lab equipment for education and industry. The company, founded in 1968 and headquartered in Rochester, NY, meets International Organization of Standardization (ISO) standard 9001: 2000.

5 Piece Equal Mass Metal Cylinder Set

The density of the metals in this set range from 2.7g/cm³ to 11.3g/cm³, giving learners a wide range of different values to study. Each cylinder has a 0.5 inch (12.5mm) diameter and an equal mass.

Set includes:

  • Zinc
  • Copper
  • Aluminum
  • Tin
  • Lead

Excellent for physics classrooms. Density metals have a wide range of educational applications for all grade levels, including density investigation, specific heat and specific gravity exploration. Set includes a complete instruction manual that gives a background on density, specific gravity & specific heat and includes inquiry based student activities with capture sheets.

Due to the nature of raw metals, some oxidation or corrosion due to humidity and storage may occur. Simply scuff any oxidation off to make the item look brand new again. These density metals are designed to be used in an educational setting and are not fabricated using ultra high precision machining. Expect tolerances in the +/- 5% range of any stated dimensions (although they are generally much tighter).

The Eisco Labs Density Investigation series is designed to help students identify and figure out mass, understand the relationship between mass, volume & density, to understand specific heat and specific gravity and provide them with quality introductory physics and chemistry concepts.

Tip: Use jewelry polish or fine 600 grit sandpaper to remove oxidation and restore a shiny patina. This set visually demonstrates the different densities of various common metals and will work great for my university science lectures. The metal rods are acceptably machined, though several of the pieces could have been much more nicely polished and finished. One piece had a blemished surface, and the lead piece had small dings in it — possibly a result of these pieces all being packaged loose in the same bag rather than packed in foam or similarly protected. They’re acceptable at this price point but not great. Also, an informational sheet was supposed to be included with this set but was not.

This is a nice set of metal density examples. Each sample weights exactly 30 grams. They are each cut nicely and shaped with clean edges and perfectly round. This is a perfect set to demonstrate the difference in metal densities.

Worked great for a middle school mass lab. Easy for the teacher to tell which is which, but I can see students not being able to tell the difference. Labeled atomic symbol with a sharpie on them. Great items. Perfect for our 2 part Mass lab. Thanks!

The cylinders were not exactly equal in mass, but were close enough. They were in just a small ziplock bag, without any identification, but you can figure out which is which easy enough if you know the densities. Not especially impressive, but good enough to do the job.

Each cylinder weighs 1 ounce, they’re a neat little trinket to have on your desk.

Cannot tell zinc and tin apart as they arrived not labeled! Both have similar properties and coloring, and nearly impossible to tell apart! No help - disappointed by this manufacturing oversight.
