How Long To Cook Poached Eggs

When it comes down to timing and how long to poach an egg this also comes down to preference. Do you prefer your yolks runny or cooked a bit?

To keep the yolks on the runny side, 5-7 minutes is the ideal time to cook the poached eggs.

If you prefer your yolks a bit more cooked, you could give it a bit longer. But no more than 10 minutes is necessary.

When making poached eggs the timing is really up to you. Once you reach the desired cook time you can turn off the heat.

For the last few weekends, I've been making shirred eggs (oven-poached eggs with cream). My picky eater stepdaughter had actually liked them, and even more surprising, she decided to try truly poached with runny yolks and DEVOURED it in seconds. So, I went on the hunt for something simpler and quicker than the oven, and something she could do for herself. I remember the actual poached eggs pots from when I was younger, but didn't want another pot. These seemed like a perfect concept with minimal storage space required.And, they are! The first thing I did when they arrived was try Just Egg in them, as I don't eat eggs. They take much longer than regular eggs (10-15 minutes), but they come out perfect and it's a great change from only eating it scrambled. I've likewise tried it poached with some vegan cream (as I'm enjoying right now), and it's delicious.My stepdaughter (17yo) eagerly made her own over the weekend, and I think we have a new weekend breakfast trend.Just like others have stated, spray with some pam beforehand and there's no issue. With Just Egg, as it takes longer, you'll need to watch your water level and add more as needed.Enjoy!

I have wrote a review previously, but it was wrong! I didn’t read the instructions, so I didn’t put the lid on. That’s why it took too long to poach the eggs. Today I did it in the right way, and the eggs come out very nice within 4-5 minutes. The product is good! Especially if you want to more than one egg.

These work and you get a nice clean egg, compared to when you just drop one in boiling water … which makes my kids happy. It sometimes is hard to get it to cook evenly (top stays translucent), so I will put a lid on the pot.

The eggs poach ok in the microwave but the eggs are difficult to remove from poacher.

This could not be easier to use if you actually read instructions. Makes the perfectly delicious poached egg. I like mine runny so do 5 minutes. I boil an inch of water in a sauce pan. I add a quick spritz of canola oil to the silicone cup (the kind that comes in the propellant containers), plop in one egg per cup and set in water bath (one inch of water is plenty!), and cover the sauce pan (it should have a steam hole in lid - if not tilt lid so some steam escapes). Cook for 5 minutes for runny and longer if you want it more well done. This works perfectly every time. I tried other oils at first - all sprays and they all made it difficult to get the egg out of the cup nicely. However with the old school canola oil in the container with propellant, the egg slides right out. Make sure you drain the water out first in the pan by squeezing the sides together so the egg doesn’t fall out. These directions are idiot proof (or at least they should be!).

These little cups and the directions that came with them were so easy to use. After I put the eggs in the cups and the water was hot and I put the cover on I've set the timer for 5 minutes as it directed and after I took them out they were the best eggs I've ever had absolutely delicious very tender cooked perfectly not hard yellows at all just the right consistency. I recommend this to anybody who likes poached eggs so much easier and neater than poaching in water. And so much easier than soft boiling and then trying to cut them open so you can get the egg out. These eggs slide right out of the cups just tip it and they slide right out. Easy clean up too.

The only reason I gave this product 4 stars is because the baster brush is very flimsy. I like how the poachers don't get hot so taking them out of the hot water is easy. The corners are a little high so I poach in a dutch oven. I found when I poached in a fry pan the the lid caved in the corners and the steam didn't have good circulation. They are steady when standing so I found it to be easier to crack my eggs into them before putting them in the pot. If you do exactly as the instructions say with coating them with oil the eggs slip out very easily. They also clean up real nice in the dishwasher (top rack).Overall I'm pleased with this product.

I have tried for years to have a way to make perfect poached eggs consistently for several people simultaneously. I tried more than one specialized egg cooker, tried perfecting a microwave technique, and tried many web life-hack suggestions. Nothing did the job, until now. I got two sets and can now can do 8 perfect soft eggs in 11 minutes (jumbo eggs starting cold). I read all the one-star reviews, and have suggestions. I found no off taste, found pods very easy to clean, and completely consistent. Use 1" of water, too much or too little will cause issues. The cups should just touch the bottom of the pan when an egg is in the cup (weighing it down). Don't boil the water, just the lightest of simmers (a rapid boil will tip the pods). Add a dab of butter into each pod placing the pods in the water as it heats. This melts the butter (spray or oil works as well). Brush the butter up the sides. For me it took 2.5 minutes for the water to heat. Then add the eggs, cover, and cook 8 minutes. I can make coffee and toast in this time. Turn off heat and uncover. Run a dull knife lightly around the edge of a pod. Lift the pod carefully by the pointy parts using two hands. and tip to slip the perfect egg onto toast of muffin. Continue to the next pod. To gauge doneness, just give a pod a wiggle in the pan when only the yolk wiggles it is done. These are not fool-proof, but if you are not a fool, you should be eating perfect soft eggs on your first try.

I bought this because I thought it would be easier that traditional poached eggs. The cups did work and made a fine poached egg. But for me it is easier to just do traditional. You have to oil the cups, carefully place them in a pot with a lid. So now I have to clean the cups and a lid. I still had to clean the pot. Again, it poached the egg, but IMO it causes more work.

These work perfectly and I can now make perfect poached eggs. WARNING! Don't put them in the dishwasher or use too much soap to clean them. They tend to retain the soapy taste. Hand wash and rinse thoroughly.
