For The Readers Out There

A Shagadelic Cable Management Kit

Some cable management kits leave you hanging out to dry like yesterday's laundry. They don't come with a cutting template or saw. Some even require you to do the wiring. Yikes. One false move and you'll catch a jolt that'll leave your hair looking like Doc Brown. We're looking out for you, so everything you need is in the box, and no wiring is required.

Most install manuals are more confusing than the movie Raising Arizona. We make our instructions simple to understand and even toss in a few jokes. You'll be able to set up this in-wall cable management kit in under 30 minutes. A half-hour in exchange for a lifetime of kickin' it cable-free? What more could you ask for?

So...How Do you Install It?

The first thing to do is decide where you want the in-wall boxes to be. There can be up to 6' between the top and bottom boxes. If you're using the included extension cord, make sure you're less than 6' from an outlet. Can't get that close? Any 3-prong extension cord will work, so raid your Christmas decoration box for a spare cable.

Now slap the template on the wall so you'll know exactly where to cut & won't jack up the wall. Here's the fun part, grab the drywall saw and get after it. For safety, I like to test saw blade sharpness by using it to open up a bag of America's favorite finger hat, Bugles. Now that you're 3/4 of the way into those Bugles, use the template to cut perfectly shaped holes in the wall.

Next, you'll run all the cables through the wall connecting them from the top to the bottom box. Finally, connect the wall plates to the wall with a screwdriver & bam, you're done.

Flush Finish

Some in wall cable hiding kits make you connect to existing wall brackets. That's a one-way ticket to a halfass finish. Using the wall brackets in the box gives you 2 advantages. First, you can put each box exactly where you want it. Second, you'll get a picture-perfect finish, every time. High five yourself, and head to the fridge for some well-earned refreshment. Pour me a cup of that purple stuff.

Chapter 2

There's Room For Some Weirdos

Plugs come in all shapes and sizes. Big bulky plugs, right-angle plugs, thin plugs... (read that in Bubba's shrimp recipe voice from Forrest Gump.) We built this cable hider with extra space between plugs so even the weird ones can be plugged in.

Plus, the low-voltage brush plate pass through has room for 3 large cables. Fitting your HDMI, audio, and Ethernet wires shouldn't be a problem. On the flip side, dropping cables behind the wall can be a huge pain in the keister. And because we've all done it before, we fixed the problem. Built into the brush plate is a wire catching mechanism that'll keep your cables from dropping into the wall.

The Nerdy Stuff

  • Max Distance Between Top & Bottom Box: 6'
  • Minimum Space Into Drywall: 3 7/8 inches (top receptacle)
  • Saws Included: Drywall hand saw
  • Cords Included: 6' low profile extension cable
  • Model: EGAV-CMIWP2

Many reviews and they all seem to be accurate.ONE THING to Think About... My installation included hiding my TIVO LUX behind the TV. The Wall wart that comes with the TIVO LUX ac plug is positioned in a way that it would cover the other AC outlet so the TV couldn't be plugged in. I ended up by a short 6" extension cord to move the TIVO LUX away from the AC outlet in the wall plate so both outlets were accessible. This situation might exist with other wall warts or perhaps even the AC plug on your TV. Not a big deal but closely look at the orientation of the AC power cord for anything you might plan to plug into the upper units AC outlets to ensure you can plug in without any interference.

Used in spare bedroom to hand TV on wall and hide wires. Easy install, just a few minutes. Flush against wall, covered by flat screen.

Very easy to install, and worked great for me. The instructions were really easy to follow, and pretty funny to read. The templates worked great, and were very convenient. The only negative thing I can say is the power cord that comes with it, that supply’s power from your outlet to the lower plug, sticks out pretty far. I wish it had a 90* plug or more low profile. Maybe I can find one to use in place of it, but I can’t slide my entertainment center all the way back up against the wall.

Hard to rewire if needed, a bit overpriced for the quality, but it does the job and it is behind a tv, so not even visible

Finally installed this in my bedroom and it was very strait forward except the location I wanted to install this was directly behind my tv mount so I had to use some shims (extra washers) on the tv mount to space it out enough as to not pinch the main outlet cable run fixture. It worked great. I really like how the outlet is offset at an angle so you can get the tv much more flush to the wall as the cord plug extrusion is eliminated with this feature. The installation was pretty easy with the included drywall saw. I would say anyone who is handy could handle this.
