These are excellent pliers at a great pliers. They look like they'd be good for cutting and twisting even pretty heavy gauge wire. There is also a handy crimper built in.

I like these pliers, they have a good feel, there is no slop between the two halves, and the serrations on the faces offer good grip. I have found the cutting edge is not durable enough for my needs though. I work with a mix of electrical and hanger wire. Some of the hanger wire we use is a heavy duty spring steel. Anyone who has worked with the stuff knows it can cause a lot of damage. I cut one piece of 14ga spring steel wire, and damaged the cutting edge (see photos). I tried cutting the same wire on another pair of good quality pliers, and it cut the wire without damaging the cutting edge. I think these are good pliers for softer wires, but if you're running into hardened materials, you may want to pass on these. To be clear, linesman pliers shouldn't see this kind of abuse normally, and it's just because of my odd needs this is an issue.

These pliers are larger than average so they have better leverage when working with large gauge wiring. They also have a better grip than ones like my rusty old HF electrician's pliers. I also like how the color goes with my not-exactly-Makita off-brand power tools. If using these for extended amounts of time, the handles can feel uncomfortable. I ordered some gloves here that are designed for electrical work, though wrapping the handles with padding (like for the handles of golf clubs, racquets, or canes) would probably suffice.

I got this to replace some old pliers which had seen better days, and these are a great replacement for situations where I need to grab and bend something into place. The pliers operate smoothly, and have good feeling insulated grips (though I would not expect them to have a safety rating for very high voltages). The cutters have worked on the bit of copper wire I have tried, though I'm not sure how long the cutters would last with anything more then occasional copper, so your mileage may vary - I don't plan on using the cutters much. Overall they seem fine, I'll update if that changes.

This review is on the 8” Lineman’s pliers from Duratech. The images show the pliers after removing them from the package and various angles to see details. The listing gives a good overview of the features of these pliers. I found them to be very well manufactured, they are made with Cr - Ni ( chromium nickel) hardened steel with a black oxide coating which is machined to a brushed finish in the raised areas of the jaws. The jaws have a serrated V - groove cut into the clamping area that is sharp. The cutter is also very sharp and provides clean precise cuts effortlessly with minimal pressure applied. The TPR ( thermoplastic rubber ) grips are thick and comfortable. This material is resistant to weather, chemicals and a wide range of temperatures. The pliers open and close with ease and do not have any binding or looseness. The Lineman’s pliers came into existence back in the 1850s for the electrical and communications industry but are now also used for a variety of purposes. I have other tools from Duratech that I use on a regular basis and they have proven to be very durable and reliable. If you’re in the market for affordable quality set of Lineman’s pliers I recommend you give Duratech a try!
