I ended up returning this item. The straight design made it a little more difficult to use then the other one I bought. This one did brush fairly well but was awkward to use. This one only has 1 blade brush where my other one has 2 making it better for brushing.

I purchased this one to replace the one I'd been using on my 2 dogs for 7-8 years. It works well on horses also, by the way. The dogs loved shedding tool and would vie for who got to go first. It covers a larger area than most other tools I've used and practically rids itself of the hair/fur coming off. Without any experience with long haired dogs, I don't think it would work well for them. Obviously, it cannot be comfortably or safely used on bony areas.

I got this brush for my long haired cat and it works really well. It’s easy to use and clean. I also used it on a rug that had my cat’s hair embedded in it and it worked for that purpose as well. If you have multiple pets or even just one this is a great versatile product!

My middle aged mini horse doesn't shed her hair naturally the way she did when she was younger. This tool is very handy for removing her extra fur and keeping her cooler in the summer. I usually open the handle to cover more area, but this is a good size for a mini horse. Don't know how long it'll last, but I'll update when/if it bites the dust.

This horse hair brush is used on my dog. I have purchased several of them. Great to get out dead hair. Dog seems to like it.
