Tool offers 2 different spacing widths for nails up to 5/8" diameter. Instructions: Position spacer and push nails into small round hole. Hammer part way in using a rubber mallet, tack hammer or household hammer covered with felt or cloth; remove spacer. Place hollowed section on bottom of tool over last nail to repeat even spacing. Use end holes for corner positioning. Hammer nails completely into project to finish. (If surface is curved or heavily padded applying nails perfectly will be difficult with tool)

Dritz Space and Set Tool was extremely helpful when applying the decorative brass nails for my upholstery project. The nails were evenly spaced at the bottom of the footstool holding the fabric in place and gave ita beautiful, professional appearance.

This is helpful for spacing. The grip on the tacks is too tight sometimes after the tack is set, removing the tool can unseat the tack. I find the angle/corner grip most helpful. This tool can be helpful in not smashing your fingers in trying to set the tack, but the thickness of the tool can prevent the ability to set the tack and remove the tool once set without unseating the tack. After some practice, the tool is helpful when you are familiar with how it can help. It is sometimes helpful and sometimes not. This is true of any tool. Overall I am glad I bought the tool and find it helpful.

I didn't find this very useful. I was making string art and needed something to space nails apart. This was more of a pain and hard to see any pattern.
