I got this for a banner I wanted to use this for. I order oak, but this looks more like birch. As the fabric I got was a little wider than I thought it would be, I'll use this for balance at the bottom and wrap the fabric around it. It's sturdy and the right length, just not as the picture seems to show the color. This is the description from the page - and the picture of the dowel rod at the end is from the ad pageBrand CindocoColor White,Red (???)Material Wood

I probably should have given these 4 stars, but they are just pricey and weren't packaged that well. Otherwise the dowels are great.

I do a lot of crafting projects, and rarely two exactly the same. I recently decided to make a cane and ordered some brass to machine the handles, which came with enough material to make two cane handles. So I ordered two oak dowels, since I've made oak canes in the past (albeit entirely different styles). Normally I go to the lumber store for them. These aren't "great". They aren't actually 1". One measures on the end at 9/10" with the other end at 19/20". One is relatively straight, while another one has about a 4 degree bend. The widths along both of them are irregular, varying as much as a tenth of an inch, going from 1" in places down to 9/10".Picky? Maybe. But the lumber stores do a better job of supplying consistency in their dowels. They both look straight to the naked eye from a few feet away, and the variations in width aren't particularly glaring. The assessment is that they'll do the job, but the lack of QC in them will make the build harder, since I don't have a 9/10" drill bit. I had hoped to not have to use any epoxy in the canes, using rivets made from brass rods to attach the grips, and now it appears I will.I did like the convenience of home delivery (I'm making the canes for ME, since I'm increasingly in need of one and my previous examples are more for show than function, so going out and buying them from stores is a touch difficult).I had started this review with 4 stars when I checked the diameters, and dropped it to 3 when they were that variable. That's actually a lot of difference in width, and will involve more effort to get things to work. Given the price difference, and the quality difference, I'll not be buying from these folks again, but these will likely "do" for what I need them to do.(Apologies for the bad camera work. Cell phones don't make for good cameras. Both pictures show the same end, but rotated 90 degrees. The diameter isn't consistent. I tried to make sure they were accurately measured. The ruler is a drafting ruler with 1/10" marks. Judge for yourself.)I might recommend these for people who don't NEED perfectly straight dowels and perfectly consistent diameters. As supports for a book stand or shelving, they'd be fine, but a touch spendy if you have a local lumber yard that carries them (most only carry "hardwood", which you'd probably want for that anyhow - oak is "more special" and sometimes harder to find). So I'd say it's your call. I don't have any intention of returning them, and will use them as planned. It just means I get to spend more time on it than planned. As I said, in the future, I'll just go to the lumber yard. That way, I can weed out the ones that don't "measure up" before I buy the ones that do.
