This review is for Dorman 924-212 Brake Backing Plates.Excellent replacement over stock. Ford only sells the backing plates as an assembly with the cast iron bracket that holds everything together, which is why they want over $200 apiece for them. If you buy these you will have to press out four splined bolts to get the plate off the bracket and then press them back in for the new plate. Dorman also offers "loaded" plates: Dorman 926-273 and Dorman 926-272. These include the parking brake components and the cast iron bracket, but as several people have pointed out, the brackets do NOT have the boss for the speed sensor. So, those may or may not work for your truck. These plates are actually 2.6 thousands thicker than stock.REGARDING THE BACKING PLATES RUSTING OUT:Unfortunately the factory backing plates are a two piece design. That is, the backing plate is two pieces of stamped sheet metal that are pressed together (not even spot welded) and then painted. Water gets in between them and cannot get out. That causes these to rust from the inside out, and if you are in the rust belt it will happen quickly. These replacement backing plates have the exact same design. While it might be possible to seal them, that would likely require dunking the backing plates in some kind of sealant or paint. BE ADVISED, this can be a fire hazard! The Dorman backing plates come with a piece of paper that spells out this warning. The paper also says that the Dorman backing plates come with a lifetime warranty against rust (for whatever that's worth, you're still in for a whole bunch of labor *when they rust out again). To replace these backing plates you will need to take the rear brakes off, pull the inner axle shafts, take the rear hubs off, and then take the rear main brackets off (which have the plates pressed on to them with four splined bolts). You can find videos on youtube for all of that pretty easily. Removing the rotors usually involves a small sledge hammer, and the rotors do not survive. The rotors like to corrode directly to the hubs. Be sure to back off the parking brake before attempting to remove the rotors or you could damage the parking brake bits too. Removing the hubs requires a special tool for the hub nut, and will definitely ruin the inner seal. The inner seal is a huge multi-piece design that presses into the back of the hub and then presses onto the hub axle when you put the hub back on. If you take the hub off for any reason, the seal will split in-two leaving a metal ring and a bit of rubber on the hub axle and the rest of the seal in the back of the hub. You may want to replace the hub bearings while you are at it; I did not, but I did go through the trouble to figure out what was needed. There is an o-ring seal in the inner axle shaft flange, I did not replace mine and I have no part number for that.FORD SUPERDUTY REAR ENDS:Ford started using the "Sterling" rear axles in 1985 as a 10.25". In 1999 they went to a 10.5" ring gear. They all share the same lineage and many of the parts are swappable between years. They are called "Sterlings" because they are made by Visteon in Sterling Heights, MI. For 2008, Ford also sold Superduty trucks with Dana 80 and Dana S110 rear axles. The information I am giving here is for 2008 10.5" Sterlings and have a 12 bolt cover.NOTE: The hub bearing sizes changed in 2007 for 10.5" Ford Sterling rear ends. The bearings I list here are for 2008 and up (until at least 2010, maybe longer). Here is what you will need, including hub bearings if you go that route:Tool -- Powerbuilt 648476, 4-lug, 2-3/4" (just an example)Inner Seal -- Timken 370247A Oil Bath SealInner Axle Flange o-ring -- ?Inner Hub Bearings -- Timken NP114036 and NP064306 race (SET53)Outer Hub Bearings -- Timken LM104949 and LM104911 race (SET38)For things like rotors, pads, and calipers, check with a Ford dealership. I found that these parts are significantly cheaper at the dealership parts counter than Advance or Autozone.

I purchased these for my 03 Super duty since I live in a rust belt area and mine were beyond repair. I liked the idea of them being powder coated, but I should've known better when they were from Doorman. The price was a bit extreme, and the fitment was terrible. But that seems to be the norm when you are dealing with a Doorman product. The holes for the pins that hold the parking brake shoes in place were at least a 1/4" off from where they were supposed to be, sad thing is, its a stamped product so it wasn't a misdrilled hole. You get what you pay for.

Highly recommended for any parking brake rebuild job. My old dust shield didn't look too bad from the outside, but as you can see in the pic it was totally rusted out on the inside. This dust shield went in great and the new parking brake hardware fit perfectly - no issues.Be aware that replacing the dust shield involves removing the wheel hub which requires a special tool. I went ahead and replaced the hub seal and wheel bearings while the hub was off. Be sure to budget extra time for installation. Took me nearly 2 full days from start to finish just to do one side.

Worked perfectly once I spent the hours to get to the old ones and get them off. Sure glad that I did though as the factory ones were completely rusted through and had ruined the emergency brake shoes.

Just make sure you are getting the right set. Some trucks have a forward facing rear driver's side brake caliper, others have a rear facing. Unfortunately mine had a the wrong one (I can't remember which now) and the Amazon garage feature doesn't catch that. of course I already had the other brake shield on, but when I called amazon, they actually went ahead and sent me the correct one, without making me take the other brake shield back off ($60 seal!)

Fit was correct. Seems to be a good product. Be sure your brake calipers are mounted to the rear of the axle for this part number. There is a different part number for front mounted brake calipers. Ford used two different rears, Dana and Ford
