I ordered the part because it was the closest I could find to the original part in look and materials. Imagine my surprise when the part that arrived looked nothing like the picture, but a cheap aftermarket part. I guess we will see how it holds up. Dropping an axle again to replace a crappy part is gonna piss me off.

I replaced these on my 2001 VW Jetta 1.8T because the rear swing arm bushings had given up after 214,000 miles and were banging metal-to-metal over larger bumps and pot holes. I was able to do this with the swing arm on the car but there is barely enough movement in the flexible brake hoses to move the bushings down to where you can get at them. I popped the clips out that hold the flex hoses at both ends and freed the steel brake lines to move just a little, and I think that was needed to not stretch or break the lines. The new bushings I received did not look exactly like the photos, but very close. Mine were black plastic instead of a steel sleeve on the outside. Very tough plastic, but not metal. I added a little more rounded corner to the small end to aid in pressing it in because I had a little trouble getting it started, and with a small sander it was clear these were solid black plastic on the outside. I was able to squeeze and deform them slightly with my hands or a large pair of channel lock pliers, which make me sure they were not metal. Form, fit and function should be the same as original but no corrosion, which contributed to the death of the originals. My car is 18 years old, and I am sure the bushings were original. I don't know if the new will last that long, don't care, they work and fixed my problem. I had rented several tools: ball joint press and hub puller/bearing press from O'Reilley Auto and used some of the parts but needed to use a 1/4" threaded rod about 12"long to actually pull the new bushings into the swing arm. 2-person job. Took about 2 hours+ on each side. Totally worth it. Don't ever want to do it again, but probably saved $500 labor and $60 on parts for a Saturday project. Good Luck!

I got these for my 2001 Golf TDI. I wanted to add some information that might be helpful to others installing these, as I ruined one installing it. These cars come installed with hydraulic bushings which don't look exactly like these. So, my car having 340k miles, the bushings had pretty much fallen apart. I watched some youtube videos on how to install these, but it didn't include the info I am about to tell you. To get the bushings out, you have to beat them out. I finally got the bushing out of the back side (side pointing towards the inside of the car), then went to install the new bushing. It kept trying to go in, but would push out at some point on the bushing, and I ended up tearing the bushing. What I realized after ruining the bushing is, the old bushing comes out in 2 pieces, or at least both of mine did. After you get the back side piece out, you'll notice there is a piece on the front side (facing towards the outside of the car) with a 1/4" lip that is about 3/4 of the opening. This is a sleeve and has to come out. It is extremely rough to get out, but I found that if you take a sawzall or chisel and make 2 cuts about an inch and a half apart, you and get under it and tear/pry it up, and once you get that piece of the sleeve about out, the whole sleeve comes loose and you can just knock it out the back side. There wasn't anything wrong with the bushing, it was my fault, and my Bentley manual recommended using hydraulic specialty tools to remove the old one which I didn't have. Hope this helps someone else.

Plain and simple, these replacement mounts were exactly what I needed to fix my car from swaying back and forth. They were half the cost, so I replaced both for the price of one.
